  1. I am scheduled for a cruise Trade Routes of Middle Ages leaving Barcelona in late April.   I opened up the page and saw there was an important notice which I thought was a cancellation but instead they offered a chance to book tours, schedule dinners and purchase drinks package.  Am I crazy or does Viking really think this might happen?

  2. My wife and I will be traveling with our 25 year old daughter next year in an S2 suite that has an upper berth.  Can anybody comment on three people in the S2 and the upper berth.  Also, do all suite holders get complementary drinks still at the retreat lounge since only my wife and I get the drinks package on the suite.  I know our daughter will want to enjoy some cocktails and it will be nice to pregame with her at the lounge.

  3. We are looking at Oceania Nautica next year but have several questions and look forward to advice and opinions. We want to combine British Isles and extend afterwards and saw that we can stay on and sail to Barcelona or disembark and travel to Amsterdam and sail to Lisbon the next day on Marina. We have travelled on Oceania Marina and Regent Voyager but have never travelled on this small ship as Nautica. We like doing laundry on board and heard its difficult on Nautica. We typically stayed in penthouse and assume that would be much more comfortable than veranda. I understand cabins are much smaller on Nautica. We have never been to Amsterdam or Normandy but are not enthusiastic about traveling to Amsterdam to catch another ship. Of course we could see Amsterdam and Normandy by land prior to the British Isles voyage. Are there inherent advantages to back to back?

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

  4. My wife and I begin our cruise in October and have a few questions about the delivery of our cruise tickets. Our travel agent has not been particularly helpful or responsive:

    1) Our cruise is schedule to begin in Barcelona 10/11 but we will be leaving our Florida condo 10/7 for a few days pre-cruise in Barcelona.

    2) Since we have a common mailbox at our condo, we have USPS deliver to a PO Box. UPS and Fed Ex deliver to our door. Do you know if our tickets are delivered by USPS or another delivery system?

    3) Since we are moving around a bit prior to 9/15, we won't be down there until then. When we would expect the tickets to arrive? Should we give another address?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  5. I just got an opportunity to upgrade on a 10 day Mediterranean cruise for a great price. Here are the pro's:

    1) I can upgrade from PH3 to an OC. The PH3 suite is forward on the left side of the ship. The OC seems to be center on the right side of the ship. I've heard the right side is better in the Meditteranean in approaching Venice.

    2) My wife is prone to seasickness. I think the more center OC may help in that regard.

    3) The upgrade offer is about a third of the rack price increase.

    On the other hand:

    1) Its a very port intensive trip. How much will we really enjoy the room? There are no days at sea.

    2) My wife like the idea of being close to washer/dryers to get some wash done since we'll be gone from home for three weeks in total.

    3) We can probably apply the increased cost in a drink package or more land excursions.

It might be moot because I'm waiting so long to respond.

    Thanks,

  6. Three things:

First, I actually would be interested in hearing your opinion(s) on the classism for which you criticized Oceania prior to sailing. Having now been on the ship, did you find it to be a positive / negative / neutral?

Specifics to include differential boarding times, priority tenders, specialty restaurant reservations, etc would be welcome.

Second, having not actively participated in the recent dress code fight, I recognize some of those by whom you may feel attacked to have given their point of view - that being, if they are clearly within the dress code, it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks (about polo shirts or otherwise).

Third, you know you engender strong feelings in some here. Take it all with a grain of salt. Keep that which you find useful and discard the rest.

I would be interested in your observations on the first point

    Thanks,

    Mike

  7. I enjoy the forum and appreciate the comments. This will be the first cruise post-retirement and I intend to modify choices as my wife and I decide what's important. I will probably start a new post to reflect on excursions, alcohol package, Internet, etc. Not having cruised, I won't know if well use them or not. My initial thought is prepay more packages to encourage me to use them. If I don't use them, I'll know for next time. If I go the other way and don't prepay, I probably won't use them because I tend to get hung us on the nickels and dimes. I want to avoid that on this vacation.

It's about seventeen months away but I'm getting excited already.

  8. First post...we are confirmed in 10014 in October, 2014 from Barcelona to Venice. Our cruising experience has been limited to a few days on Carnival in the Caribbean so we expect a much, much, better experience. My wife has been known to suffer motion sickness but has had success recently with the patch. Any thoughts about this cabin in these waters at this time? Thanks.

    Mike
