  1. I have never been out of the country. Unfortunately I lost my job a few months ago so money is an issue. European cruises are VERY expensive. I looked at backpacking through Europe and that is not inexpensive plus it is a little scary after reading travel restrictions and not knowing anything about the area etc. I thought a cruise would be safer and we would get to see different areas, even though it would be short times at each port. We have been to the caribbean and she loved it but just wants something different. I looked at NCL cruise to Greece - 7 days and it also stops at Turkey.  Any advice and suggestions would be helpful and appreciated. Thank you.

  2. If you use the card enough to get to 60k points, then the 2 cat cross meta is absolutely the best value/"most bang for the buck" when it comes to using the points. There's an entire thread here regarding the card and the best way to use points ect...

    Good morning,

I am sorry for not being so smart but would you please explain the 2 cat cross meta? I have a card and I looked at the link you recommended but I still didn't understand how I should use my points for the best value? I was going to do on board credit but now I am thinking getting the check from the credit card when I redeem my points is best and then use my credit card to pay any on board spending like tips etc because I then get points again on my card. Thanks for all your help! I am a first time cruiser on NCL so thanks for your patience

  3. Somewhere I read that Carnival has new menus out. We are going on the Pride in September ....does anyone have the new menus? Could you please post them?

Does anyone know if or when Pride will have the new menus or are they still using the old menus? Even though we only have been on 2 cruises in 2 years my husband complains that it is always the same food. I don't mind but for whatever reason he thinks it should be varied. To me I think it is fine because it is not like we eat that food every week. It would be nice to give him less to complain about! :D

  4. I've used Concorde Limo (based in Freehold, but they serve all of Central Jersey) many times. They have sedans, limos, vans, buses...pretty much any type of vehicle you could want. They're a high-end service, not inexpensive.

Thank you. We are leaving from Asbury Park, 5 people, 3 bags, going to nyc port for carnival splendor on July 23. What do you think the price would be based on what you booked before. Thanks.

  5. Thank you for all of this great information! I appreciate it so much. Now I have to find out some things we can do at each port. I'm trying to do things on our own to save some money.

I cannot reply with a quote today, I'm not sure why but it just isn't working. Thank you again for your expert info.

  6. We always go a few days ahead of our cruise when we cruise out of San Juan. We stay at the El Convento (across the street from the cathedral) and we walk all over - even at night. We have even walked back to our hotel at 3 am from an evening at a salsa club :)

NOW, anywhere you go you need to be mindful of where you are …..stay on the main streets (no alleys) and usually on Saturday nights there will be a large SJ police presence in the old town area….. at 8 pm you will be fine as there will be tons of tourists (and locals) walking about.

Great! Thank you very much. The salsa club sounds fantastic but we are leaving from NYC and just stopping in SJ from 3pm until 11.

This church sounds closer to the port so we can walk. Another poster mentioned the church in St Thomas is about a 30 minute walk or a cab ride away. Hopefully it works out.

  7. There is the wonderful cathedral very near the port…… it is also near lots of other sites so very convenient.

It is also the burial place of Ponce de Leon…..

Here is a link to San Juan info….scroll down for a map and the cathedral is #6

Thank you. It looks like we could walk there without a problem. I believe mass is 7 pm on Saturday so it should work. My only concern would be will it be dark at 8 pm and is it unsafe to walk back to the ship at that time?

  8. About a 30 minute walk or 6.00 p/p for cab.

    22 Kronprindsens Gade

    St. Thomas, VI

My parents are in their 70's and my mom has a bad knee so I guess we should take the cab. She walks every day for about 45 min to an hour but I don't want to push her.

  9. While these are UHF radios (400Mhz band), which are better than the 900Mhz that a banned poster suggested using earlier this month, they will probably not work well. VHF radios have better penetration than UHF, but you generally have to have an FCC license for VHF. Steel is the enemy of radio transmission, and the ship is a steel box. You may get a radio to work out on deck, but when trying to call up/down several decks, and also the length of the ship, performance becomes very poor.

The ships generally tend to use UHF radios for internal communication, but do it by using repeater antenna placed throughout the ship. Without these repeaters, the radios are useless. You would also find that the "channels" assigned on your radios are close to or the same as the ones used by the ship, and you would be constantly "stepped on" or blocked in transmission by another user, particularly since the radios you propose are less than 5 watts, and the ship's radios are 5 watt radios.

Use a house phone to call your parent's cabin to check in. Some ships are starting to install systems that let you keep track of your family using smart phones after you download the app (NCL's iconcierge, and others).

I appreciate your info and I will just use the house phone. We saw several people using radios on our first cruise last year, some ships even rent them, and they were not annoying to us, but obviously they annoy others. Thank you again for the information and your kind words. It will be nice when we can use the system using smart phones.
