We returned last Saturday from our 13 night Panama Canal cruise. It was an older crowd with fewer than 20 people under 18.  It was awesome to actually spot a child. We were on the Miracle and it was not at full capacity. There were over 90 Diamonds and over 600 Platinum cruisers. The Welcome Back party was in the theater and was well attended. Food and drinks were good. Happy to answer any questions.

what night do they have the midnight gala buffet? thanks for any info on the journeys cruise .. Anything we should not miss?

We loved our Journeys cruise but it was mostly older people. We are eagerly awaiting our next one, and it is to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.  On our roll call, there are others celebrating 50 or more years os marriage.

Yours will likely be an older crowd but there is so much to do. And your kids will have each other and likely will meet a few others on the cruise.

This is nice to hear... we are going on our first Journeys cruise to celebrate our 35th anniversary.

It is either by points ot hand pay jackpots.  If you aren't accumulating points during play, you might as well be in the pool.   It is assume that that the top percentage of high points per cruise get the offers.  Probably 10,000 point and more but if there are a lot of gamblers in the 20,000 plus range 10,000 isn't getting you much.

    i

f my husband and i both gamble will they combine the points?

This is so true - we sailed on the same sailing and agree with most of the OP's thoughts. Looking at it from just two adults vs with a teen. We avoided the main pool area lol - it was a little louder down there than we noticed in the past. And you could hear much of it in the serenity area. Other than that an awesome 8 days! The staff were all wonderful!

would you happen to have to Fun times?

  6. I go to the MDR every day for breakfast, I don't care what they call it breakfast/brunch. I either get a combination omlette or eggs benedict if it's breakfast time, or if I go back in the early afternoon for lunch I like the pasta and the salmon.

We also love the MDR for breakfast or lunch or brunch but just a note to everyone that does not know, that the Brunch is held in only one of the Main dining rooms, On the Splendor it was the Gold Pearl downstairs only. That was not our MDR for Dinner

  7. How bizarre.

We used the spa on Splendor daily and had none of the issues you describe. It was one of our favorite parts of the cruise.

Sorry they seemed to be having an off week.

Yes we also were planning on it being the best part of our cruise, We did so much research on it.

I think they were not doing well in selling out with the week Spa passes on this cruise that is why they were doing so many tours, but also how did they expect to sell out when so many things were not in working order? The spa manager did assure us she was going to look into all the issues and try and have things fixed as soon as possible, but it was not going to be done within the time of our cruise. The main reason I did write this,.. only for the fact that We did plan just about everything around using the Spa for our 8 day cruise, and I wish I did not have done that, so what I guess I am saying is just to have a back-up plan, because things are not always going to be as they were on someone else cruise.

  8. We are on the Splendor in a spa balcony next July they better get their act together or I am going to freak out on them. I love the spa area primarily the t-pool and steam rooms and never had a problem with people getting tours and being bothersome.

I have never read anything at all about what we experienced, and we are people that really do not complain and pretty much go with the flow. I just hope that they do fix what they are doing there or I am sure they will have a bunch of unhappy people.

We will always try again as we never have had problems in the past on other lines, but this was our first time using carnivals spa.

  9. Glad you loved "our" cabin!!! :D

Now, how about some details!! :D

We really didn't do too much,.. this trip was to be a full relax and spa cruise, we had some issues with the spa, :( I wrote a post on it. We just really enjoyed our balcony, I read a book and we enjoyed the brunch, afternoon tea and the MDR we had anytime dining that we loved. We also bought the FTTF that everyone has their panties in a bunch over, but it worked well for us. We have been to those ports many times before so we just did a bit of shopping and hit Junkaroo beach, and did not even get off the ship in FL

We both came home rested and are trying to figure out where we want to go and what ship next, but now I will need a large balcony no matter what ship we choose. :0)

  10. It depends on when you get there and when they start boarding, if boarding has started you will get on quicker, they had not started boarding yet, so you would have to wait.

yes it all depends on when you arrive, and when the ship is cleared. We were on the Splendor out of NY in Nov. We got to the port early because we had to take an earlier train than expected, so we were at the terminal by 10:30 and we did not have a VIP waiting area. The ship was cleared around 11:30.. FTTF was called right before Zone 1. We went straight to our cabin and our bags were waiting for us, We also Loved the early disembark with self assist. If you don't mind taking your own luggage off the ship you are off very quickly. We were told to meet at 7:30 am and were off the ship and in a cab to the train by 7:45 and home by 9am. The best easiest time ever getting off of a ship to date. Very smooth.

  11. :D Hi again!

Just wanted to give you a big thanks for all you help and your great review, We LOVED our cabin and now we are spoiled forever!!! LOL

That balcony is to die for! My husband did the old foot over foot to measure it and it is 43 of his feet long. lol

We Loved every single sec. of it even when I was bundled up with 3 layers of clothes and my cozy bathrobe on top of that ... :0) worth every penny to us!

Now that we are home from our cruise, it is time to start to plan the next! :0)

  12. Did you figure out what turned your hands blue?

was this a one time issue? Did they say whether the lounges were going to get fixed and how difficult was it to get your money back?

The blue came from the reason the pool was closed the day before it that tiles were falling off in a few areas, They did not allow the paint or glue "that is what was blue to dry enough before filling the pool back up, so the spot I had touched was still very wet and I didn't notice, since I too was wet from being in the pool until I looked at my hand and then also at the spot where all the tiles were falling off into the pool again.

They never did give us an answer about when the chairs would be fixed, and after going to the guest services and then speaking with the manager of the spa, they understood my complaints were valid and it was not a problem at all with the refund.

  13. I just posted this but I will post here for you too, don't get me wrong the place is really pretty, but has issues.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to let some folks know about the Cloud 9 Spa on the Splendor.

I know that I am to blame as for "putting all my eggs in one basket"

And also this is just My experience so please do not bash me here, I am writing this just incase that someone out there is like me and had planned on spending time in the spa.

ok here goes, first of all we had bought FTTF just for the purpose of getting on the ship early to make sure we were able to get the spa passes for the week, as from reading many posts here on CC board that they sell out quickly for cruises with 4 sea days. So it was a Must for me to get there early so we would not miss out. A little about me so in hopes nobody gets nasty with me and again,.. it is just my experience. My husband and I were spending our 25th wedding ann. & my 50th birthday on board the Splendor so we splurged this time on a wrap around balcony, so we did not get all the price drops that were going on for that sailing, but we didn't care as we spend a lot of time on the balcony even when it was Ice Cold out there we just loved the wake of the ship. This cruise was for us just to relax and enjoy.

Ok now back to the Spa, we were the first ones to book the Spa passes and we were so very excited, we went back to our cabin unpacked and the min the spa was opened we were there in our cozy bathrobes and all.

We wanted to use the thalasso pool first then do the hot steam and work our way around to the warm rooms with heated tile loungers and then go to the next cooler room and so on,.. the way the spa is meant to be used. When we arrived they told us the pool was being worked on and will be closed until tomorrow. That was fine, no problem, as we know things do need to be fixed and we would just use it tomorrow. Then we went to the steam room that was great until the door kept getting opened about 10 times, no joke , no less then 10 maybe more, with the spa workers trying to sell passes and do tours, so the steam would all go out of the room each time until there was no steam left in the room at all, ok no problem again, we figured it was still the first day and they had to push the sales, so we moved to the next room, we tried 4 of the tile seats none were even close to being warm they were very cold tile seats, so we went into the next 2 room with the same problems??? when we asked about this to one of the spa workers that was doing another tour now in this room, she told me to go and inquire about it at the desk! So that is what my husband and I did, they said sorry but they have many tile seats out of order and people can control the knobs outside of the doors and that is how it gets broken. So at this point we were not relaxed, now we were a bit frustrated so we just said ok and we will try again tomorrow. Next day we called ahead to the Spa since we were on the complete other end of the ship and I didn't want to take that loooong walk to find out if the thass. pool was fixed yet, she said Yes it is fixed! Yippie I was very happy and really needed to distress from the day before and also from the very crazy year we have had, it is Time to just chill out and kick back! So off we went down that long hallway. :0)

We get into the pool and I am loving it! I have to hold on to the side of the pool so I do not float away, then after a few mins I look at my hand and it is Full of Blue paint and glue with a tile stuck to my swim suit! OMG I mean fingertips to wrist total BLUE! I started LOL and said I didn't want to tell anyone because then they would have to close the pool again! I had to just about rip my skin off to get all the stuff off my hand.

Then we went to try the steam room and the whole nine yards all over again today, but the same thing happened again. Tours with people in and out when we are trying to relax, how can we relax with a bunch of people opening the door and talking and not in a quiet tone either, and who wants a bunch of people staring at them every 5 mins. ? so again No steam & no heated tile chairs " that worked" so that is when we just gave up and asked for our money back, I was glad we did because the next day we went by and the thass. pool was closed again. Oh wait one more thing, I was also in the bathroom of the spa looking for the shower? I asked the tour woman, YES she was doing a tour in the bathroom also! I asked her where were the showers? She said they did not have any in the bathroom only in the hallway by the other rooms, Now I know she was wrong about that because I read here on these boards that the showers were great in the bathroom, so when she left with her tour I opened all the bathroom stall doors and bam there were 2 showers, they are not marked on the outside of the doors and all the doors are kept shut, so just open each one and you will find the shower, by the way the shower in there in great!

Im so glad I brought my book and had a great balcony, because after those 2 days, I had a Great relaxing cruise.

I hope they get things fixed and limit the tours or do them after or before the spa opens I think that would help a lot

  15. Does anyone know if the cloud 9 on the splendor has an outdoor private deck ? One that only spa guests can use ?

We just came off the Splendor last week, I have to say I did a bunch of research before we book the spa passes for our 8 day trip and we planed everything around relaxing and using the spa daily, I am sorry to say that we were so disappointed that we ended up asking for our money back and then scrambled to figure out a new plan on what we were going to do with the time we had put aside for the spa. They really have to work on a bunch of issues there.

Also no there is not a deck that I know of that is special to the cloud 9

  16. Morning!

Can someone please explain to me what the deal is with the Breakfast in the MDR's versus Brunch ( is it at the Punchliners club?)

When we have previously sailed, we would get a really early delivery of a few items from room service then go to the MDR for some Eggs Benedict, waffle, pancakes, whatever. We LOVE the MDR breakfast and how you can pick your seat, sit by the big windows and enjoy the seas!

Can we still do that daily?

OR, what is the Brunch in the Punchliners club?

I am trying to figure this all out and explain it to my parents since this is their first sailing.

Hi we just came off the splendor last week, The Brunch is served only on Sea days , the MDR for breakfast & lunch is closed on those morns... but you can get eggs benedict and all great items at the brunch, you can request a table by the window also, Brunch is served first come first serve basis and starts @ 8 or 830 until 1pm

  17. Sailing next month and wondering what the overall temperature inside the ship was like in the Lido buffet and other public rooms on the ship.

When we sailed on the Splendor in June, the Lido buffet was always freezing! We learned that we could sit outside by the back pool and the Indian food section in the morning at breakfast.

It was actually warmer by the pool with the dome up. Most evenings the dome was up when the movie was on.

    MARAPRINCE

I just returned home on Monday morn. I think the temp in all rooms were just right. Now out on my balcony on the last night was a different story OMG was it cold!!:eek::eek:

  18. They usually want you out by 8:30, and off the ship by about 9:45ish.[/quote

Is that the very latest 9:45? Is that with the late check-out,.. carry off our own luggage? I was wondering because we rather wait when it is less crowed.

We do not have a flight to catch for the first time cruising and would like to wait until the last min... before our vacation is over.
