  1. I changed our Edge sailing in December 2019 to the Reflection.  We just could not get excited about the Edge after reading the reviews and seeing all the pictures.  A lot of things we enjoy on the S Class ships they took away and we did not care for any of the new additions that the Edge has.  So now we are on a 10 day cruise instead of 7 for $700 less than what we would have paid on Edge.  Not to mention the ports are better in my opinion.

We just got off the Silhouette and we loved the new deck furniture, the world class bar, the hideaway, the ensemble bar, the passport bar and the pool loungers.  The Edge does not have the bars and the deck furniture (low back chairs) do not look comfortable.  I like putting my feet up!

We love Celebrity and hope Edge is successful so the other ships might not be as crowded.

  2. Captain’s Club Host is who you contact for questions about the program. They also are present at the Elite breakfast and Elite cocktail hour. They coordinate the Elite tea and wine tasting events, officer’s table invitations, bridge tours, Zenith recognition parties and the captain’s Club celebration.

Concierge helps with lost luggage, or if you want to make reservations at a restaurant on shore. If you are ever unfortunate to have to leave the ship quickly due to an emergency, the Concierge helps you with arrangements.

Thanks. Hope I never have to leave early, but now I know where to get help.

  3. Hi - We are on Celebrity Reflection for 14 Night Southern Caribbean cruise in Dec. I am working on selecting my excursions. I am reviewing all the individual port sections too.

But please tell me about a special excursion you took. It can be for any Caribbean island, even if not listed below. I will keep it for future reference.

So far we have 3 private excursions booked - Calabaza at Barbados, Woodwind in Bonaire and the Trikes in Aruba. Also considering Passions on the Beach sunset dinner on Aruba.

Calabaza and woodwind are both very good excursions. To bad you are not overnight in Barbados. The calabaza sunset dinner on their deluxe catamaran is the best!

  4. It think everyone is really getting hung up on the spend but that really wasn't my point. The point i was trying to convey is that my spend went up and i felt, personal opinion, that the level of service went down. And like i said in previous posts, i really didnt alter my spending from our last couple of cruises. Simple value for the dollar comparison. Again, we are still sailing RCCL in the future.

I am new to the RCL Board. This is a tough crowd. I would have thought you were spending their money instead of yours by all the critiques!:Dclear.png?emoji-grin-1677

  5. Last 9 years we have cruised exclusively on Celebrity and love it. Feels like going home every time. But we are retiring and want to try new things. One of those things is other cruise lines. We are considering Anthem of the Seas for 11 days to southern caribbean. We chose Anthem for the big ship experience (but not gigantic) that we have never had and said we would never do but retirement makes you look at things differently.

What I am soliciting advice on is the differences we should expect between our Celebrity experiences. such as:

What is the difference, other than size, between the Jr suite and Oceanview with LG Balcony? Are there any perks for getting a Jr suite? Priority boarding, free spa access, goodies in the room etc..

On Celebrity we have always had free access to the Persian Gardens because of our cabin type. Is there anything like Persian Gardens on the Anthem? Didn't seem to be but the website for RCCL is not very informative.

Does it seem crowded on the Anthem ( I know very subjective question)? Based on their gross tonnage per passenger it is slightly smaller than most of the Celebrity ships but not by much

I have read that for shows and specialty restaurants reservations are a must and well in advance of departure. True?

Do they allow smoking in the Casino?

Thanks. Any tips about the Anthem are appreciated.

  6. Can anyone tell me if the Porch is open for lunch on embarkation day? We loved Bistro on 5 and we have had good experiences in Sushi on 5, but we are looking for something, and really enjoyed the Porch last March on the Silhouette. What about burgers at the Lawn Club? Thank you!

Don't think the Eclipse has a Porch or Lawn Club.

  7. Hi all,

I'll be on the Equinox in just a few weeks, armed with a Premium drinks package! I like rum, so I'm looking to you for your favorite rum based cocktails. Any suggestions?

Go to the world class bar. they have a rum manhattan that is very nice. Actually all the drinks made at the bar are nice.

  8. i have only cruised on Celebrity and have always bought the premium package.

I am considering Panama Canal Cruise on princess and trying to compare with Celebrity.

Does princess have a coffee cafe like celebrity and are these drinks included in the package?

Are can sodas included in the princess package?

    Thanks

  9. The Tuscan grill is excellent, I think. Qsine is fun but I way over eat there so I avoid it.

We always upgrade to the premium package simply because we don't want to make any decisions about can we or can we not order a certain drink. The world class bar is our favorite for pre dinner cocktails. The premium package is not cost effective for us but I am not on vacation to save a penny.

    You will enjoy the Eclipse!

  10. Howdy, taylortime05...we are cruising on the Summit the week before you!

Barbados - we highly recommend Elegance Barbados for a catamaran/snorkel trip. A very intimate trip (there were maybe a dozen of us) with top notch service.

St. Maarten - we did a power boat tour with Captain Bob and this was the best day we have spent in the Caribbean EVER. Our guide took us through the harbor to see the zillion dollar yachts, up the coast to the French side for some swimming, then back down for an awesome lunch on the beach and swimming, then a stop at the end-of-the-runway at SXM. Plenty of drinks and music and sunshine with a group of about 10 of us.

St. Kitts - making our first ever visit there this upcoming trip, we are thinking about a taxi ride to Cockleshell beach.

St. Thomas - we just booked the Yacht Nightwind for a St.John's sail/snorkel trip. The reviews are excellent and we have had amazing luck with the smaller tour companies.

Happy cruising! You are going to love Celebrity!

The nightwind in St Thomas is excellent. We have sailed with Rick and Cathy 3 times. They are great hosts and very laid back without the rules you encounter on ship sponsored tours. They treat you like adults. The last two times we organized through our roll call and filled up the tour. Have Fun.

  11. I am jumping from RCI to Celebrity. I am fed up with Royal. Now I need help planning a cruise with Celebrity. I am looking for a seven night cruise to the Caribbean. I don't know anything about the ships, rooms, dining etc on X and would love input from some of the experts on this board. I have done some research and I am looking at the Concierge, Aqua and Sky Suite staterooms. I have read that Aqua will become Sky Suits and I am a little confused on what this means. We do prefer to eat in the main dining room. We like the social aspect of it and have made many good friends this way. We usually do one night in a specialty restaurant. We have only been in a JS on Freedom Class ships on RCI. Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I value all input.

For seven nights I would do the summit in an Aqua class AFT facing cabin. Spend a few extra days in san juan and it will be perfect.

  12. Can you bring a Leatherman multi tool in your suitcase or will it be confiscated?

Our last Cruise in November I was summoned to the naughty room to collect the piece of luggage not delivered. Reason was my wife had packed a leatherman. It is probably hit or miss about getting through. If they do catch it you can pick it up at the end of the cruise.

  13. We have to keep remembering that Cruise Critic participants are a very small percentage of the cruising population. I heard less than about 8% on any given cruise?? The vast majority that we've come into contact with on cruises are lovely and gracious and most haven't even heard of this forum. I just ignore all the rude ones.

So true! And may I add that the Censor Police on this forum are....well very sensitive.

  14. What it may do is drive away the people who insist that things must always remain exactly as they were when THEY began cruising on X. The whole cruise industry is changing and there are zillions of people out there who don't know that "THIS is the way it is SUPPOSED to be..." and they will be more than happy to take the place of all the people who are convinced that X is shooting themselves in the foot.

Ex. Remember all the people who said Oasis/Allure would never make it? That RC would never be able to fill those ships and that it was the beginning of the end for Royal because "people won't want to be on a ship that big blah blah blah." Funny thing, they keep filling them AND charging a premium for them. Likely the same will happen as Royal tweaks their new Dynamic Dining concept and X tweaks their new suite dining concept.

Very well said and may I add that while this forum is entertaining and sometimes informational it only represents a very small portion of the cruising public.

  15. Just off the summit and they have lot more than just bud, miller, heine etc. Not sure what a craft beer is but I had my fill of New Castle and fat tire. They several brands from the pacific northwest. Different bars had different beers so shop around.

Have Fun. It was a great cruise for us.

  16. Hi everyone!!! My mom is going on her cruise tomorrow am with my two aunts .... she's wondering about the casino and if any of the slots pay good !!! Please let me in on some tips to tell her !! (Other than keep your money .... ha ha!!)

    Thank you!!

Our cruise critic slot pull put in $465 in the Wheel of Fortune machine and got back $161. We had one spin. After we quit one of the ladies did hit the same machine for $500. My experience is that the machines are a lot tighter than those in Vegas.
