  1. Any help would be appreciated. I am visiting my niece who lives in Germany near Frankfurt before my cruise on Amawaterways. I can get some nice airfare through using points but can't do multicity. So I'm going to need to take a different airline since Delta doesn't go from Nuremberg to Frankfurt. My big question is will I have enough time if I take a United flight from Nuremberg at 7 AM and gets into Frankfurt at 7:50 AM. I will probably have to pick up my luggage and then get my luggage on my flight to the USA which would be at 10:30 am.

  2. When they sailed last week they did not go south of the big island.......no lava flow at present but then you never know since it can change at any time. You can see the route they used if you look on the NCL website. As for the Na Pali coast they went very slowly and had someone describing the area while the port side was facing the area. Yes, they did turn the boat away from the coast and sailed past it with the starboard being able to see it but they did not go slow and you would be farther away.

  3. I get very sick on cruises and amusement rides. I have tried Bonine but even though they are non drowsy I find that they make me sleepy. I tried ginger pills at Islands of Adventures Harry Potter ride which I had ridden before and was sick for hours after and was stunned at how I could ride the ride with my eyes open and no sickness! So I just went on the POA and took 1 ginger pill with food 3 x a day........(I believe this was what the package recommended). I had no problems all week! I started the pills when I got on the ship and stopped when I got home. (I thought I would keep it going while on my flight home just in case that ride got bumpy as it was kind of bumpy going in to Maui and I was a little sick!) I bought my ginger pills at Walgreens. I also bought some ginger gum but never ended up using it.

  4. Just came home from our POA cruise last week. There is no lava flow that can be seen from the water - it is flowing inward. :( The lava flow changes from time to time so you should check to see what is happening. You can take a helicopter that fly's over the lava flow - (As long as the weather cooperates!)

We had a great time. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them. I'm hoping to do a review when I can.

  5. I agree!!! I am staying in Maui for a week before the cruise and I just decided to check my car rental there for the week........I just saved myself an additional $46..........:D The car rental prices change all the time! Kind of crazy.......now I feel like I should check the prices in Hilo and Kaui where I booked car rental as well........

  6. Closer to the pier I believe.......it said "non-airport: 74-5583 Luhia St." They said to call and they will pick you up and take you to get the car. $37.37 vs $105 if I remember correctly! :)

  7. You were totally right it probably was because the time I put in they weren't open........so I did go there but never got redirected to Dollar I could have made a reservation with Thrifty but geez.......I'm not sure I want to pay 2 1/2x more than the rate I got with enterprise........ Is it really worth that much more??

  8. Maybe I just didn't get redirected! I did make a reservation with enterprise which I did twice as I forgot my dh's work uses National and I saved an additional $13 :D by going through his work rather than the DHCR site.........so I cancelled the original one made through DHCR......Thanks for the information and I'll see what the price is for Dollar (at the former Thrifty). :)

  9. I've seen conflicting information and I would like to hear from anyone who has rented recently. On the Discount Hawaii Car Rental site it says there are no shuttles to airport location in Kona and you must take a taxi. On another Transportation to and from the airport site it says Shuttles are sent to the port in Kona by all major car rental companies. I tried to rent from the closer to the port location but they are closed the day we are in port. So will I have to take a taxi or will they have a shuttle to and from the airport. I saw where the cost for a taxi from the port to the airport is approximately $22 - 26/15 min.

  10. Cos24, When are you going on your cruise? What did you decide to do? This was good info for me as well. We are thinking of going on our own rather than the tour as our flight doesn't leave until 10:30 pm and we would like to be able to do what we want for how long we want. At the cruise cost of $93/per person for the cruise tour.......$50-60 dollars to store our luggage for the day doesn't sound all that bad for the ability to do our own thing.

  11. I'm not really liking too many of the tour options when returning to Honolulu from our cruise on the POA. I would like to be able to see all of Pearl Harbor and go at our own pace. Wondering if anyone has done their own thing? Our flight does not leave until 10:50 pm so we have plenty of time. Considering just taking a cab over but the big question is what can we do with our luggage? Can we rent a car nearby? That way we could store our luggage and after Pearl Harbor we could drive around a bit??

  12. I'm getting excited for our trip in August. I did have a question...... Your pictures were wonderful. What type of camera did you use?? I of course have my cell phone that takes good pic's and our point and shoot camera that we have used for years recently broke. So, do I get another point and shoot.......go to a better camera that is a little bigger or just use my phone??? Just wondering what you used as your pic's are fantastic! Thanks

  13. My dh and I were also trying to figure out what to do with our first trip to Hawaii to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. As I looked at all the Islands and what we would enjoy I quickly realized that it would require quite a bit of flying/packing/unpacking etc. not my fav thing to do and would eat up a lot of time. So we ended up deciding to fly into Maui and spend a week at a timeshare then fly over to Honolulu and take the Pride of America cruise for our second week - arrive back in Honolulu take the tour of Pearl Harbor and fly out at 10 pm that night home. I am looking forward to the trip (We will be there Aug/Sept. 2014). Good luck with your planning!!

  14. Leaving this Saturday for Vancouver and planned on taking the Skytrain to Waterfront Station and then a taxi to our hotel (Westin Bayshore). Are there taxi's located at Waterfront Station and if so what door way do we need to go out of to find them.

Also, what pharmacy would you recommend near the Westin Bayshore that I could get a prescription filled......It's a bit of a long story but the great USofA stopped providing Intal - An asthma inhaler that I have successfully used for 30 years with only one asthma attack since my initial problems. I am allergic to dogs, cats and horses that cause the problem and only use the inhaler when I go to a house with an animal. The wonderful thing is this inhaler stops my problem and I have no problems. :) I have used the web in the past with mixed results/problems and high fees. I thought since I'm going to be in Canada why not have the prescription filled. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much for your help!!

  15. I forgot to mention........I loved your review.......I've been up for over an hour taking notes of the restaurants/excursions etc. While we are only doing 4 days after the cruise all your info was great! Thanks so much for taking the time to write it. :) We leave on August 17th and we can't wait! Someone mentioned two different hop on and off companies in Vancouver but I've not seen that.........did you??

  16. Why were you "incredibly sorry that we included Fairbanks?" What so disappointed you in our community? Are you just not outdoorsy enough to understand our lifestyle here? And I somehow have missed that Fairbanks is so dismissed by posters on Cruise Critic, which is what I am reading in to the comment that "You all tried to tell me."

I too was wondering about this comment - I have not seen negatives about Fairbanks.........planning two nights there in August.......already booked on the discovery cruise - since I like Disney maybe we'll like it! LOL :o I also planned going to Chena Springs and the Ice Museum.
