  1. My hubby and I have been to St. Thomas multiple times, but have never been to St. John. We will be docking at Crown Bay (RC Harmony of the Seas) next Tuesday - 1/16. Kiddos are staying with our parents all day so we can have the day at the beach alone. We want to go to St. John and be on a nice beach with bar service. Can someone please "dumb it down" and give me step by step instructions on where to go on St. John and how to get there (including how much cash to take) from Crown Bay port?

    Thanks so much!

  2. Trying to decide between Vista and Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas. Price is the same for balcony room. We’ve only sailed Carnival and Norwegian. Kids didn’t like kids club on Norwegian Escape.

    Pros and Cons of each?

    Things that matter to us:

    - cleanliness

    - good kids program with flexible hours of operation during the day

    - food

    - amount of things that are free/included

    - layout of ship is easy to learn

    - clean food areas

    - fun things for parents (game shows, newlywed games, etc...)

  4. Hello:

First, make sure you check out the Roll Call for our trip. We are having a Meet and Mingle with the crew and all the details are here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2409137

In regard to the Vibe passes, they are $100 each and are adults only. It is a private area limited to I believe around 100 people.

For going to JVD, you can do what we did and rent a boat and captain to take you from St Thomas or Tortola.

On the Breakaway, yes, they had that yummy sauce that I would put on everything!

    Cheers,

    Eric

Thanks, Eric. So as soon as we board the ship, where should we run to to get the Vibe passes?

How much is the boat and captain that you got to take you to JVD? Who did you book through?

  5. Just a few questions...

We're leaving on the Escape (first time with NCL) in 9 days.

    1. What is a Vibe pass? How much is it? Why is Vibe better than the adult only area (Spice H20 maybe?)?

    2. There are 4 of us - hubby and I with our 2 kids ages 5 & 10. We want to go to a beach and maybe Paradise Point in St. Thomas. We wanted to do JVD in Tortola, but can't seem to find an excursion that they will allow the 5 year old on. Any suggestions?

    3. Crazy question, but in the Japanese specialty dining restaurant, do they serve the white "shrimp" sauce that most Japanese restaurants serve? I didn't see a combo of steak and shrimp on the menu...will they do that as a combo?

    Thanks!

  6. I would like to know as well. We were in a regular mid ship mini suite, but they "upgraded" us to a family mini suite. It was one of those rooms over the bar, but I called and FINALLY got someone to agree to move us to the other side of the ship. We are still over a restaurant, not sandwiched between 2 floors of staterooms like I would have liked.

  7. We will be on the Norwegian Escape in 3 weeks and would love to go to JVD. (We don't want to do the baths.) I've seen people talk about an excursion through NCL that goes there, but I'm not finding it. :( We are 2 adults in our 30's with 2 kids, ages 5 and 10. Not big bar people, but like maybe one or 2 drinks on the beach. Will probably only spend a couple of hours at the beach, but want it to be a "postcard pretty" beach since this is the first time our kiddos have been the Eastern Caribbean route.

Am I making a good choice going to JVD and if so, can you tell me step by step how to get there?

  8. I have some questions about the iConcierge App. We will be on the Escape in a few weeks and hope to have the iConcierge App on our daughters phone and our phone so we can keep up with each other. Is that what this app is used for? Can we text back and forth on it? How can I make sure that I'm not using my cellular data?

Also, tell me about internet...I'm a realtor and have a few deals that will be at a crucial time during that week, so I need to be available to check emails. What is my best bet for this? (I'd also like to be able to post on facebook occasionally. :)). When we've sailed with Carnival before, I've always just changed my data plan through Verizon to include international, but it still gets expensive while on the ship.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!

  9. I'm going on April 15 but did not receive an offer to bid, I was wondering what day your sailing and what type of cabin your in that they offered you a upgrade. I'm in a M6, so the only next room for 4 would be the Haven.

    Thanks

We are also on the April 15 sailing. We are originally had a mid ship mini suite (MC). I doubt we will "win".

  10. I just bid on a H6 (Aft Penthouse) and H7 (forward penthouse) for our April cruise. I doubt I will get either one, but can those who have stayed in these tell me if our 3rd & 4th guests (our kiddos) will share the sofa bed? I'm assuming there are no pullman beds in these cabins. If anyone has a picture of the Haven rooms with the sofa folded into a bed, I'd love to see it.

    Thanks!

  11. I am getting ready to book our first NCL cruise on the Escape for April. We have cruised multiple times, but only on Carnival. We are a family of 4 - hubby and I are in our late 30's and have 2 kiddos ages 5 & 10. I am such a planner...I always felt like I knew everything about Carnival and was totally prepared with each cruise. But, now I'm lost. So, tell me all you can:

    - Dinner...I saw that we aren't assigned a time for dinner. That's awesome. Will we have to sit with other parties or can we request a table for 4?

    - Dinner...I saw somewhere that shorts are ok for men. Is that true? (I know it's a debatable topic and some get quite testy about it, but just answer the question. ;)) Is the dress code the same in specialty restaurants as well?

    - Dinner...do you have to order the items as they are noted on the menu or can you make substitutions? Like instead of roasted veggies as a side, can you get a potato instead? Can you order 2 of anything? My hubby loved being able to order 2 shrimp cocktails and steak & lobster on carnival.

    - Dinner...is the kids menu the same each night? Can my 10 year old order off the adult menu?

    - Specialty Dining Package...they are currently offering 3 meals free in a specialty restaurant for the first 2 guests in your room. I'm thinking Cagney's, the hibachi restaurant, and the brazilian restaurant. Since we will have to pay for the kids (except the 4 year old may be in the kids club at that time), is it the same price as adults or different menu and price for kids?

    - Specialty Dining Package...what is included in the all inclusive price or a la carte priced restaurants with the 3 free deal? 1 app, 1 entree, and desert?

    - Room...we are likely going to get a mid ship mini suite. But I saw that there is not much closet or storage space in any of the rooms. No drawers except under the couch. Any tips on where to put clothes for 4 people??

    - Room...The bathrooms look much nicer than Carnival. But from the pictures I saw, the double sink in the mini suite looks like it takes up all the counter space. Is there any storage in the bathrooms?

    - Room...kiddos want to know if there are ever towel animals?

    - Room....Room service at no charge or charge?

    - Room...we never drink the items from the stocked fridge, so always have the room steward remove them on Carnival. Will they empty them on here? We use our fridge for bottled waters and to keep my daughter's seizure med cold.

    - Room...I find Carnival's bed to be quite comfy. What do you think about NCL beds?

    - Room...When I choose my room, how can I tell if I'm choosing one with the bed or sofa beside the balcony? (I don't want my monkey child sneaking out on the balcony!)

    - Room...(hopefully) smoking isn't allowed on balconies. Is that correct? Is smoking allowed anywhere outside? If so, what side of the ship? I want to make sure I book on the other side.

    - Drinks...if you get the unlimited soda program, does everyone in the room have to get it? I don't drink soda but hubby does. And what soda's do they have?

    - Kid's program...do your kids like it? My 5 year old is very outgoing and always loved Camp Carnival. My 10 year old is very shy and needs a little more coaxing to go. She loves to do crafty projects.

    - Any last minute tips to tell me before I choose a room?

That's enough for this round of questions. Thank you so much for your help!!!

  12. We have always cruised with Carnival (Dream, Legend, and Breeze) but thinking about changing things up a bit for our upcoming trip and trying RC. We are looking at Allure of The Seas or Freedom of the Seas. If you've been on both, what are your thoughts? Things that are important to us:

    - great children's program (ages 5&10)

    - good food and service

    - little motion felt on ship

    - fun water features

    - plenty of variety with the free restaurants

****can you tell me what restaurants and activities cost extra on Allure of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas?****

  14. **Bear with me, I know this is a long post, but I wanted to get it all out there. :)**

I know most people would say go with the newest ship, but we're having a hard time choosing. A little about us...2 adults in our late 30's with 2 kiddos - ages 10 and 5 at the time we sail, both kids have been on 3 or 4 cruises before. Hubby and I have sailed more than that. We don't care about the bars or clubs - we don't use either. Have always had a balcony cabin. What we do care about:

    - Cleanliness

    - Friendly crew

    - Great Camp Carnival/Camp Ocean with friendly workers

    - Fun, attentive wait staff

    - Serenity deck that isn't always over crowded

    - Extra stuff - waterworks/slides, Guy's Burgers, etc

    - Updated - don't want to be on a ship that looks rundown

    - Easy to "navigate" - we recently were on the Breeze and seemed to always feel lost...it was like you had to go up or down stairs, then down a hall to another set of stairs to get where you were going

    - Feeling very little motion - I know it mostly depends on the seas, but I'd love to know if those of you who have been on the ships that I'm going to mention can tell me your thoughts. Our daughter seems to get sea sick once or twice and it's almost always when she's been in the Camp Ocean or eating dinner.

So here are the ones we are looking at...sailing on April 15th.

    - Carnival Magic (leave from Port canaveral)- 7 nights, Belize, Costa Maya, Roatan, Cozumel

    - Carnival Glory (leave from Miami) - 7 nights, St. Thomas, Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, San Juan

    - Carnival Sunshine (leave from Port Canaveral) - 8 nights, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Grand Turk, San Juan

    - Carnival Conquest (leave from Ft. Lauderdale) - 8 nights, Grand Turk, La Romana, Aruba, Curacao

    - Carnival Vista (leave from Miami) - 6 nights, Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Cozumel

The Sunshine and Conquest appeal to us because the kids have never been to those ports. They have been to Cozumel 3 or 4 times, Belize and Ocho Rios (although we never left the ship), Roatan 2 times, and Costa Maya once.

    Thanks for your input!!!
