  1. 1 week from today, I can do this right? My family has banned me from saying the word cruise ( apparently I get a wee bit too EXCITED). But come on, I have been planning and paying for this for 2 years! We originally booked it for last August but then could not go ,so changed it to this year. We booked a JS but then a few months back changed to a GS. Daughters are in a central park view.

If it wasn't for the surprise party I'm having for my son today I'd probably be bouncing off the walls :-)

I was laughing so hard when you said your family has banned you from saying the word cruise. My boyfriend keeps saying "would you get this cruise over with so I don't have to hear about it anymore." Well, he said the same thing last year before my sister, the family, and I went on our first cruise and look where that got him...nine months later and we are cruising again. :)

  2. When we took our first cruise last November we got the soda packages for us kids 24, 15, 6 & 48 yr old(I'm the 48 yr old...lol). Our reasoning was for the 24 yr old he likes soda and flavored water from time to time and got a cheap souvenir and uses it still at home; for the 15 yr old she was on vacation and was allowed to mix and match flavors and got a cheap souvenir and still uses it at home; for the 6 yr old he utilized the machine from time to time and we new he would feel left out not having a cup too; for me diet coke is my coffee plus a cheap souvenir that I still use.

For us it was worth it and with our upcoming cruise the now 25 yr old upgraded to an alcohol pkg. after what his bar bill was last time (almost $600), the now 16 yr and myself will be getting the soda pkg and the now 7 yr old will not be with us.

Enjoy your cruise! We are excited with 11 days to go until our return.

  3. What is this "checking in" that everyone is talking about? I don't remember checking in with anyone. I just remember our steward being in the hallway and us proceeding to where we had to go and the guy doing the demonstration of the life vest as if he was bored.

Thank you for the information about the no being able to stand for a long time period. I wear compression stockings and can not always stand or walk for long periods. I will email RCI tomorrow.

  4. Thanks again Bob. I emailed them late Sunday night and had a response by Monday afternoon. I was shocked at the quick response.

It turns out that the same comedian, Rodney Johnson, that was on our cruise nine months is going to be on there when we sail next month. My sister and I are happy because we were too busy socializing on deck and missed him.

  5. RCI's Enchantment OTS is stopping there Aug 21,2014.

They are also stopping there the week before. The guy we spoke to at RCI thought that maybe RCI is testing it out.

  6. I had previously posted a link for our Cruise Compasses from November 2013 but, here they are again.

If you pull up one of the daily Cruise Compasses you will see a section called "Activities and Entertainment Highlights." This will show what the main performance is for the night and who the performer is. And example is...on day 2 was the "musical" show "Can't Stop the Music" and day 3 was the comedy juggling with Mike Price. At the bottom of this section it showed the movies with a brief synopsis and the times. Then, if you go to the page with "Today's Activities" you will see what is going on all day such as on day 3 at 10:30 p.m. is "The Quest Adult Game Show" in the Spotlight Lounge.

I hope this helps just remember that there may be new performers and shows going on come July. If there is a specific show that you saw and had questions about, maybe somebody here could help you out if you let us know what it's called.

  7. I didn't go to any of the shows, so I might not be much help here.

Is that the younger guy and the blonde girl?

If it is, they were still on board. On the last morning there were two crew people at the debarkation lounge talking to a few of the frequent guests. One of the other passengers said they were the magic act.

I think they may have been on there last November when we sailed. I missed the show last time. :( Does anybody out there know how long the performers are usually on a ship?

  8. We sailed on her Nov. 2013, the week before Thanksgiving, and loved it. Ok, yes it was our first cruise but, we will be back on her in August. Everyone employee we came across was friendly and very nice especially the guy we usually had getting drinks for us on the pool deck. ;)

  10. A comment about all the other comments here...I am by no means an expert, only been on 1 cruise and did months of research for that, but I do know from my experience on that cruise that even seasoned cruisers don't always know a lot either.

We met a family on our cruise that were at a Diamond Level with RCI and did not know that you could watch the prices of your cruise and if they went down before your final payment date you could call Royal and get an adjustment.

And, I also know from experience with booking our cruise for his year, that if you call Royal their customer service does not always have all of the up to date information for your ship. The operator said to us in April, "Oh I see that they are adding a big screen to the pool deck." My sister and I chuckled and let her know that it had already been added before our cruise last November.

    Happy sailing everyone!

  11. Another quick question : is internet available on the ship?

Is it really expensive ? I read that so e of the ports have restaurants with free wifi?

    Thanks!

From my understanding most ships have internet but at what I would consider an expensive fee. As I have only sailed on The Enchantment of the Seas, they had internet, which my sister did pay for about an hours worth, and it was frustrating and slow to sign in. We sailed to Nassau which many people have said that there are several places there with internet either for a fee or a purchase from the location like McDonalds. I hope this helps. If you need more help maybe you might want to think about posting your question on the forum page for your specific cruise line.

  12. As a fellow Bostonian, I loved your retelling of the drive to the airport!!!!

We are sort of new to this, and I have a question about checking on pricing:

To do this, do you need to keep going to the RCL site and basically try to book your existing cruise? I'm trying to figure out how to watch and know if there is a price drop. I called last week for a cruise this summer, and after being on hold for 80 minutes!, we did luck out and got a few upgrades and still a lower price. I'm just wondering how to check on my own without constantly calling just to see if there is a better price.

    Thanks so much!

We are cruising in August. I pretty much go in everyday sometimes twice a day and do a mock booking to see what the price would be. I have seen people talking about a website that you can pay a minimal fee and it will notify you of price drop. They will only do adjustments up until the date of your "final payment date." After that you could possibly get a lower price by upgraing.

  13. I know you asked about recently but I was on the ship Mid November 2013. There was 14 of us including 2 small children and 1 teen. We didn't hear of them running out of anything, even all the Freestyle machines were operating the whole time. A few of us were on deck 7 mid-ship interior, no odd smells. Another had a JS deck 7 and no complaints or problems.

The kids just loved the pools. However, just before sail away my 3 yr old niece got sick and threw up in the splash pool.

We did have some rocky days but, that was because a hurricane had just passed in the ocean way off the coast (was never a threat to anyone) and it took several days for the waves to get to our area. Th one night it made for a fun night of walking and people watching. Just when you were walking straight the ocean decided you need to make a detour to the left or right. :)

Otherwise, everything for us first time cruisers in our group (about half of us) was great for a first cruise. It was so well, that we will be returning to the ship in August.
