  1. Hummm... well, the only way I did find the itineraries was to look for Pacific Coastals... it doesn't come up if I just leave it at Any Destination, 1-5 days with Vancouver as a departure/arrival port.

And, something must have happened between when I got the flyer and now as the flyer says Vancouver-Seattle May 1 and May 9 for 2015 departures on Grand and Golden respectively. But they are no where to be found on the site. Just the 2016 date (and this year I'm interested in the Vancouver-Seattle... we just did Seattle-Vancouver last Fall). Oh well.

But, the 4-day Vancouver-Ketchikan-Seattle does sound nice for this year! Iffy time of year, but any time is iffy here in the Northwest. Picture perfect today!

  2. I have a two-page flyer I got last Sept. on a Princess cruise that has one of the one-night relocation cruises listed for May 2015 from Vancouver to Seattle. Yet, when I search for it on the Princess site, it doesn't exist. Are there "secret" places to look, or is this something Princess changed their mind about (of course, I suppose I could call Princess, but CC is much better!).

  3. We had the same credit card fiasco on our relo one-nighter this past Sept.on the Golden. My credit card had been breached, but I changed it to the new number on the cruise personalizer. I ALSO gave the new card at check-in.

Alas, on a one-night cruise, and during prime entertainment time, our drinks were rejected (in front of others who we just met:eek:), and I had to go to the purser's desk to find out what was going on.

He (forgot name) told me I had to deal with the credit card company - that they were not honoring the card. Yada, yada, yada... almost an hour later it turns out that Princess has the wrong card number, ie., the breached one!

So, despite having changed it on the personalizer and verifying it at check-in, the new number didn't make it onto the folio and I spent over an hour of our 17 hour cruise on the phone for no reason with the credit card company. Granted, once the guest relations guy found out, he was apologetic, but really...?

It was a great cruise, though, and we introduced friends to Princess through it (they loved it, but having gone on Disney, NCL, HAL and RC, for some reason they found the configuration of the ship hard to navigate...?)

  4. We did Lamanai and really enjoyed it. Not a lot of time for shopping, though. As said there are a few huts on site, and then back at the pier before you get the tender there are some shops. I wish I had had more time at the pier shops, but oh well. Got a nice Chocmool limestone thing.

Access, boat ride, etc. is as others have said. Hopefully you will get Gus, who was our guide through the Princess excursion (due to the length of the trip and the possibility of getting back late, I would only book through the cruise line).

But, beware of being at the end of the line for the bus -- we ended up in the last seat by the rest room -- and it is a long ride, and let's just say the smell was a bit nauseating.

The howler monkeys were great... they almost seemed to be on cue -- so much so that we joked they must be animatronic (sp?) they started and ended so well... Disneyland has jaded us... :)

  5. Thanks everyone! Sounds like it can be doable afterall!

Our daughter is 13, and I forgot -- on our last sea day in the Gulf, I looked at the medicine cabinet I brought with us (we were prepared for lots of things -- but didn't think to get the patch!) and I did have one of those pressure wristbands. It never worked for me, but I gave it to my daughter and she said it worked! Better late than never. So, maybe that is her cure, but not mine.

I, too, cannot read or do much in the passenger seat of a car - only sight-see or navigate (or be the one to actually ask for directions!).

    Thanks.

  6. Thank you for the responses! I will definitely talk with the doctor before the next cruise, and glad to know there may be remedies! And, glad to know about the Panama canal route... I just worry about the current going northward toward LA or Vancouver if we were to start in FL. We were fine going south in the Gulf; it was going north that was the problem.

AKman2495 -- you look familiar... were you on the 2/15 CB cruise out of Houston, and were you a participant in the marriage game (or whatever they called it)? That cruise was fun (and fog-free!), except for those last two sea days of 12 foot waves... oh, and the noro...

Anyway, thanks to all. I don't want to give up on cruising because I really enjoy it. Will try the patch or whatever else the doc recommends that doesn't knock me out next time.

  7. I've been looking at the Panama Canal and Eastern Caribbean itineraries (separately, or in a couple they are combined) plus a Western Coastal.

I would love to do these, but I feel every motion of the ship. My cruise history is basically Alaska -- which is calm except for outer Vancouver Island -- and the Gulf of Mexico, which was ok until we went north and had seas of 12+ feet.

I know 12 feet sounds tiny to most of you, but it really dampened my enthusiasm to explore more cruising, and my daughter's. We took Bonine, ate crystalized ginger, drank ginger ale, ate green apples...

I didn't want to go the Dramamine route because -- well, what's the point? We'd be asleep. :(

We didn't get violently ill, but enough bad feeling to just wish we were done with the cruise.

Is there any hope for us? Tips? Tried and true tips? Thanks.

  8. Went all the way to the glacier on the Star in 2009 and the Golden 2010...lots more calving in 2010, but we were there in August then instead of June in 2009. Each time we passed the other ship going out (2009 waved to the Golden; 2010 waved to the Star). Tides?

All are extremely beautiful. But, Glacier Bay has it over Tracy Arm if you have to choose itineraries IMO. Do both! (Yes, I know one cannot on the same cruise.)

  9. Ok, thanks. We have Amtrak tickets back to Seattle. What I am wondering is if there are convenient car rental places at Canada Place that are open on Sunday with a return spot at or very close to the Amtrak station in Vancouver. I've found a couple Hertz places, but they are closed Sunday, or the one that shows near the Amtrak station closes at noon on Sunday and our train leaves around 5, so returning a car at noon would not do us any good. We just want to go to Granville Island and Chinatown, so maybe cabbing it would be easier.

  10. Just curious, as we were on her in Feb. -- is the noise you heard kind of a loud groan? We heard several loud "bonks" and "groans" coming from the shops and the lounge where bingo is played. I was told it was the stabilizers. We did have 12 foot seas those days.

  11. I'm an idiot. Not only did I forget about this for our last cruise, I forgot about for our upcoming one. I got some friends to go with us next time, both first timers for Princess, and just today remembered, "oh, I should have done the referral rewards..."!

Has anyone had any luck with Princess getting this retroactively -- that is, no one has sailed yet, and no final payments have been made. I suppose I could enroll them and have them cancel and rebook, but the "rules" say "never booked before" so that would seem to preclude that as well.

Does Princess respond to "pretty please?"?

  12. The cruise I want to d/c the insurance on is a one-nighter repo that is $125 (cabin plus taxes/fees) and the insurance is $40. Given that it is a local one-nighter, I'd rather have the $40 back if I can. For longer trips and anything I have to fly to, I always get insurance, even on airfares.

  13. This doesn't answer the OPs question, but it is on the same topic, sort of.

How do you get $600 in FCC -- still figuring out how these work. Is that 6 $100 separate FCCs? We bought 3 FCCs on our last cruise -- one for each of us ($100 ea. toward a future cruise). Is there some other way it works?

On insurance, can you cancel it (Princess' Platinum) and get your insurance fee back if you cancel before final payment? Why would I want to? We have a very low rate on a short cruise and chances of us missing it are nil, and the amount of the insurance is almost equal to the cabin fare, so would rather just get it back and risk it.

  14. Took 3 months for us. I went to guest services and they would not give me cash and said it would go back on the card. Well, it never did. I've posted about this before, but it still irks me that I had to wait three months for my money back. I've had over $500 given to me in cash from the guest services desk before, so it was not a matter of amount. They could have easily credited my card, but they chose to issue a check, that must have went around the world to get to me.

  15. All of their guest services reps must not know that one can request how they want it. I went to the pursers desk and wanted cash -- no go (and it was under $100). Said it would go back on the card. Fine, but it never did, even though I spoke with several Princess reps over the phone and asked that it be credited back to my card (when I had to call them weeks later wondering why there was not credit on my card). I tried dealing with one rep for consistency, but kept getting other people calling me back. I waited 3 months for a check. Anyway, hope the OP gets it refunded back to the card.

  16. Better push that request with them that it go back to your credit card. We had leftover OBC that the guest desk said would be refunded back to our card. Weeks later, no refund. Called them; they said it would come as a check. Weeks later, no check. Called again... they had sent it to the wrong person (the other person in the cabin, whose credit card never was on file -- everything was charged to me). Finally, after three months, I got a check at my address. No credit card refund.

  17. They aren't charging for the pizza on Lido. The discussion was about Alfredos restaurant.

I know that. I'm telling them not to even consider charging for Lido pizza or lower the quality to save $$. And, on topic: I would not pay $10 (our case -- $40 for 4 people) for pizza at Alfredos. We'd stick with the Lido pizza and hope they don't consider starting to charge per slice there. I'd rather have consistently good food on the whole ship for everyone.

  18. I would prefer what gives us quality all around. I would like to eat in the buffet and not get inferior food; similarly, I want the MDR to be good as well (last cruise: MDR was good, buffet was hit and miss... and for some odd reason, completely out of character, the IC was hit and miss -- more for less varied selection than past cruises).

If they are going to focus on better quality food in only the specialty/extra cost venues and let the people in the "included in fare" venues eat (fill in your choice of word), then I would prefer to pay more in the fare and know that I can eat practically anywhere on the ship and get an edible meal.

I do agree that perhaps charging a service fee for after hours rooms service might make sense, but keep it fee-free perhaps 6 a.m to 10 pm.

Whatever they do, please don't mess with the pizza by the pool. It is really good now and don't mess with it and don't charge for it (we've never been on a ship with Alfredos, so can't speak to that venue, but we would not pay $40 for 4 people to eat pizza!).

Charging for the drink mixer is really absurd, if that is true... really cheesy and scraping the barrel. As for the sodas and and mocktails extra: that's ok with us as long as they keep the price reasonable. We buy the soda card -- keeps soda consumption in check as well. Ok to charge for fancy coffee drinks, too, but I think drinkable ol' Caffe Americano (key word -- "drinkable"...not their syrup) and hot chocolate should be included in the fare.

If they keep going the way of the airlines, pretty soon we'll be paying extra for blankets and pillows.
