  1. This is sounding like a typical HAL mess -- different versions on different ships.

    No set rules.

    I'm not aware of any "typical HAL messes". Surely you're being facetious, as HAL does a wonderful job.

  2. Having been to De Librije on three occasions now, I guess we are hooked. This was the best meal we have had on HAL and will repeat it again if the chance arrives. Great to try new things. P.S. We are not European.

    We have reservations and I'm eager to try it. The home location in the Netherlands has an interesting web site, too.

  3. No disrespect intended, but having done the Librije experience myself, I think that this menu will be appreciated more by European guests, opposed to guests from North-America.

     

    Especially if you look at the actual prices at the real Librije, this is an absolute steal!

     

    Having sad this, taste or appreciation of food in general is very personal indeed and I will not judge your review of the diner in any way, but would like to add that the dishes offered in the Librije experience, reflect European style restaurants and the mentioned style of dishes are quite often found in many high end restaurants on this side of the pond and appreciated by many.

    Thank you for a reasonable and tasteful post The other reviews seemed to be by people who have never been to Europe or by those who judge quality by quantity. I'm looking forward to the "experience" and the food at de Librije.

  4. One thing about the Mussels and French fries, the portions were large, couldn't finish the mussels. The mayo is served on the side

    Did you think the value of Sel de Mere is good? I've seen some criticism about the restaurant being very pricey. What did you think? Thanks in advance! :)

  5. I think the Sel de Mer's menu is most interesting and like the concept of different special entrees on different evenings.

     

    One menu item I thought odd. Maybe our European friends can "clue me into this combination": Mussels and French Fries. I'd never consider ordering French Fries with Mussels. Is this a "European" thing?

    "Moules frites" are terrific. In Provence, France, the combination is ubiquitous. It's even more so in Belgium, where it's practically the national dish. Try it...the combination is wonderful! I retired to France for a while, and there was a wonderful restaurant in Apt, in the Luberon, that served moules sixteen different ways, but always with frites. The only other offering at this restaurant was steak frites!

     

    (The frites have to be cooked correctly...cut into shoestring pieces and deep fried in oil twice; the first time at 350 degrees until the potatoes are softened and nearly translucent. Then remove them from the oil, allow to cool a bit, raise the oil temperature to 375 degrees and cook again until browned and crispy.)

     

    Vive la France! :)

  6. I followed the link and did just as you suggested and on three voyages of possible interest, I clicked through just as instructed and each time, clicked on Fares, and I got to the dead end "Single occupancy rates available upon request."

     

    I expected to see the single occupancy rates (% or $) right away after clicking "fares" as suggested on the site. What a bother.

    And you couldn't be bothered to make a simple phone call? The single supplements vary by cruise and by how fully booked each cruise is. Plus, other factors can apply. Pick up the phone! :)

  7. One more question, from a Silversea "Newby." I don't see lobster anywhere on the dinner menu. Does one need to eat in another restaurant to find lobster offered?

    Why should lobster be such a defining element? If the ship doesn't serve it, buy one at your local grocery store when you get home and enjoy the Hell out of it! :)
