Silver Whisper 6/7

I've been reading alot on the formal nights on the cruise. Some say that they never saw a sequined or beaded dress. If you were to wear one, would it be out of of place? Are very dressy pants acceptable?

I don't recall noticing if anyone was wearing beads or sequins, but I've definitely seen women in pants on formal nights aboard the SILVER WHISPER. One woman was wearing what looked like a banker's suit. Another was wearing white trousers with a navy-blue blazer, as was her husband. (The latter couple looked quite dashing in a yacht-racing kind of way.)

As you can see I'm in Las Vegas and anything goes as formal. So didn't want to be out of place on my first luxury cruise.
I'm going shopping tomorrow, so this gives me a better idea of what to buy.

We were on the Whisper recently and I wore a sequined top with a black skirt - not out of place at all. Didn't see any 'allover' sequined dresses, but many with sequined/beaded designs on the outfit. Actually, it seemed that the second formal night people were more 'dressed' than on the first one. Go figure! I also saw women in very nice cocktail dresses that I didn't classify as 'formal', but they were very nice.

Vegasshowgirl, for two formal nights, I always take one pair of evening pants and two tops - both sequined and beaded. These items take up hardly any space in the suitcase. The number of women truly "gussied up" I think depends on the number of Europeans. They really dress up a storm - men and women. Many men dress in suits even in the CC casual dresscode. I just think that Europeans in general dress up more than we casual Americans. So, I would think you can be as dressy as you choose! I'm glad that pants and a sequined top's okay. I'm not a dress person. Like to be comfortable. I'm not sure if I should take alot of clothes as I'll be gone for two weeks. Am staying in Athens for a few days.
I see you're from LA. I moved to Las Vegas from there in 1995.

Joyce, as a former "losangeleno", you know how casual we like to dress! shorts and thongs for most people! In my experience, people from the East do get a bit more dressed up....I would take as many clothes as you think you are going to wear. If you are like me, you like to have choices. Remember, there is the ship laundry and I believe there is a self service laundry as well. You didn't say when you are leaving, but if it is anytime soon, it is going to be HOT in Athens! You are going to want to change frequently. I remember the first thing we did after boarding the ship at the Rome port, was to send our clothes out to be laundered - came back pristine fresh - better than I could do!

The ship's deck plan shows that there are three self-service laundry rooms. However, it does not show whether there is a photo lab which can transfer digital camera memory sticks to CDs. Does any one know, and if so how much do they charge? Thank you.

I don't recall a photo lab. Your best bet is to try an Internet cafe. Many Internet cafes or Internet points in tourist areas will burn CDs.

Also, if you plan to do much traveling with your digital camera, you can either buy more memory sticks or buy a portable storage device like the Vosonic X'S Drive Pro (which can double as an MP3 player):

Thank you for your reply. For the convenience of passengers, would Silversea consider putting a couple of "burners" in their ships' computer rooms, and may be have a staff member help transfer data for their passengers for a fee? That should be a popular "feature"!
