Bringing water/Soda/Juice onboard in Venice

Does anyone have recent experience bringing water/soda/juice onboard Rhapsody from Venice cruise port?

We carried a small, soft sided cooler with soda and water onboard NCL when we sailed from Barcelona and was hoping to do the same on Rhapsody from Venice.

A cooler is NOT on the prohibited list, but I have no experience trying to bring one.

Lots of people have luck checking a case of water. They literally put a luggage tag on it and it will show up in the room. Others do the same and it never makes it.
