I was preparing a response to Renata from Berlin which is in Barcelona this weekend, but the moderators seem to have closed the previous thread https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2549921 Yet since I've already spent some time preparing the post, I've decided to open a new one. Btw, Renata, thanks for your praise and I totally agree with you. Have just seen the TV images of these animals trashing the terrace of Cafe Zurich, in Plaça Catalunya, an emblematic cafe established in 1862 and that has been an epicentre for meeting for many generations of Barcelonans. Unfortunately, these small groups of Spanish ultra-nationalist tend to cause trouble often. And fyi, swastikas are also prohibited here (in theory at least!).

Aaaaanyway.....

To Renata and everybody else in Barcelona this weekend... a few things you can do -on top of the museums, attractions, etc.

- Oct 15th, Sunday - XXV Diada dels Castellers de Sants (human towers): in Plaça de Bonet i Muixí in Sants neighbourhood at 12:00. This is a regular competition in the "league" -so to speak- and there'll be three "colles" (teams) performing: Capgrossos from Mataró, Castellers from Sants (Barcelona) and Minyons from Terrassa. More info on castellers: http://infocatalonia.eu/w/ZkeFN -note though the video displays the "finals", do not expect the same grandiosity.

- Oct 15th, Sunday - There is a popular race, named Correbarri (literally 'neighbourhood running') passing thru several neighbourhoods in the city -so some traffic restrictions will be in place, do take the metro! Or if you fancy running a bit, register and run... it's not a professional race so the ambience is very family-oriented and fun: http://www.correbarri.com/en/home-en/ The idea is that citizens from different parts of the city compete defending the colours of their respective neighbourhoods. Yet it's open to non-residents too :)

- Over the weekend the neighbourhood of La Sagrada Família celebrates its autumn festival with a number of activities: concerts, havanera singing, a trade fair, the fire run, children’s activities and a human towers gathering. The "correfoc" (Catalan for fire run) on Sat at 8:30pm in Jardins de la Indústria and the "tabalada" (drummers) are something worthwhile seeing.... https://runnerbeantours.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/correfoc-gracia-barcelona.jpg (these ones are Gracia's but Sagrada Familia's are similar)

- Over the weekend also, the neighbourhood of Congrés celebrates its Festa Major (major festival). Also plenty of traditional and heritage activities: http://lameva.barcelona.cat/culturapopular/ca/noticia/els-10-actes-de-cultura-popular-imprescindibles-de-la-festa-major-del-congrzss

Enjoy!

PS: All these activities are free of charge, anyone can attend (visitors welcome!) and don't require pre-booking and/or registration (except for the CorreBarri)
