Purchases in Vietnam

In our case, what the merchant did wrong was tell us he would ship it right away and that there would be no additional charges. He told us we would receive the shipment in 90 days. When it didn't arrive in June I emailed our tour operator and asked her to check with the merchant. he told her we should be getting our shipment at any time. When it didn't arrive two weeks later I emailed her again and after she had words with the merchant discovered our items had never been shipped. So I emailed the merchant to cancel the order but they shipped it anyways. Despite these issues, I was trying to point out .that having the items shipped via sea cargo is a lengthy and potentially expensive procedure and the items have to be picked up at a warehouse.

Every year the area of mid-autumn lanterns "live" only one month before the festival. This year, the festival falls on Sep. 11.

From downtown Saigon follow Hung Vuong Rd for Chau Van Liem.

Turn left at the crossroads between Chau Van Liem and Nguyen Trai. Follow Nguyen Trai Rd for fifty meters only.

Turn right on the FIRST crossroads.

Get off your car and prepare for having fun in 30 minutes with camera at hand.

Walk up and down, turn left for an even narrower road.

Time is good after sunset, 6:30 PM every day, from now on, August 21.

HAVE FUN AND NICE PHOTOS.

Year after year, less and less people come to show children the lanterns in Chinatown. On the other hand, people love to take photos with the lanterns. I've just found this on You Tube, the lanterns in Chinatown, Saigon:

Purchases from Saigon could be a cup of coffee at Coffee Mây, just across from Central Post Office and Notre Dame de Saigon.

There, relax, enjoy coffee with your friends with your camera READY. You can get for free photos of a cyclo driver, a cake seller, a old lady with a carrying pole bearing fruit, cakes, or a shoeshine boy or a tourist happy like you standing in front of the Metropolitan building taking pictures from his tripod. And many more.

Three hours sitting at Mây paying $1.5 for your coffee you have so many charming pics from normal life.

Indulge yourself a photo stop at or a visit to The Bitexco Financial Tower. The ticket is VN$200,000 ( US$9) for a visit. This tower has just been selected by CNNGO in the list of 20 nicest towers in the world bearing the national icon. From the 49th floor of the tower you will see Saigon tiny in all details from the Ben Thanh market, City Hall, Opera House to the East-West belt road.

Happy to write about Halong Bay, Vietnam.

Early yesterday Nov. 12 Halong Bay, Vietnam was announced one of the new seven wonders of nature. The new seven wonders came out after 4 years of voting and selecting from over 400 nominated places in the world.

Halong bay has been attracting millions of tourists especially for the last 4 years.

This recognition which will be official early 2012 is a great pride and also a strong push to the VN authorities in preserving the environment of the site.

Thu Thiem tunnel inaugurated on Nov. 20, 2011 is said to be the most modern underriver tunnel network in South East Asia. The length from entrance to exit is 1,150 meters running 27 meters under the Saigon river.

From Ben Thanh central market drive to Cau Ong Lanh bridge and find left turn on East-West belt road to the entrance.

Visitors to Saigon ( HCMC ) from now on spend less time to enter from and exit to Northern direction. Cruisers from Phu My port always worrying about time limit on a city tour or Mekong Delta tour can now enjoy 30-45 more min. one way.

We take a different approach.

We just buy our Vietnam merchandise at any one of our local stores.:D

Fake products in Saigon Square ( and at many other places ) will challenge anyone's self-respect since they are offered without any fear of laws. Real offense but unfortunately, the sellers are not punished.

Tourists to Halong Bay should be aware of sellers of "souvenir items" stubbornly clinging to the boat, annoying and shattering tourists' enjoyment in the trip.

On the contrary, Binh Tay market gives a good price. Tourists can buy some things from that market. Suitcases at Binh Tay market are at a much lower price than at Ben Thanh market for the same quality.

Tax shopping plaza, across from Rex, could also be a good place for travellers' kits shopping.

Banh Mi ( Vietnamese bread ) has just been entitled the best street food in the world. In Saigon and at downtown banh mi thit ( Vietnamese bread stuffed with meat ) is sold on Dong Khoi Rd. outside Bong Sen hotel.
