AbbyMax Posted April 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2005 Does anyone know what happened to the Ship "Regent Star"? At least I believe that was the name. I sailed back in the 90's and the ship was beautiful with real wood in the cabins (old bathtubs).....please correct me if I am wrong about the name of this beautiful ship. todelekat Posted April 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2005 The Regent Star, which was launched in 1957 as HAL's Statendam, sailed for Regency Cruises from 1986 until they folded in 2000. The ship was then laid-up in Greece until March 14 of 2004, at which time she was re-named Harmony I for her final trip to the breaking yard at Alang, India:(

edwardtravels Posted August 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2016 The Regent Star was a beautiful ship. We sailed on it in the 1990s. Leaving from Montego Bay Jamacia, we sailed to Coasta Rica, The Panama Canal, Cartegena Columbia and Aruba. Good memories of that ship
Z0nker Posted March 28, 2019 #5 Share Posted March 28, 2019 I sailed to Alaska from Vancouver on the Regent Star around 1993. Had a great cruise director who regaled us with awesome stories, and some not so awesome, like the time he was cruise director on the Achille Lauro when she was savagely hijacked by terrorists. That was the time they threw Leon Klinghoffer into the sea while still in his wheelchair. It would be unfair to compare a ship built in the 1950's to a modern vessel, so I won't. But things have changed a lot over the years and much for the better.
