NOLA Hotel 01/11/13

I need your help/suggestions for a hotel in NOLA for one night prior to Royal Caribbean Cruise My son and his girlfriend will be traveling on their own (ages 22/20) and need a hotel for one night. They are looking at the Ramada Inn/Metarie on Causeway BLVD. I'm just not sure if this is in a safe area for them. It does include the airport shuttle and a shuttle to the port. Is there anything to do in the hotel area, or what about transportation and its costs to the FR Qtr area. Their flight arrives about noon on Friday and ship leaves Saturday afternoon. I would appreciate any of your thoughts. I just have never cruised from this port before. Thanks for the help.

We booked at the Hampton and they have a parking deal also, they offer shuttle to and from the port which from what I understand is not very far.
