jo lou Posted February 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2014 Leaving on Sunday to join the above .... hooray! To anyone that has recently stopped at Mayreau - did the ship manage to anchor and were passengers able to get ashore. If so, is there much to do/see? Any tips on trips (not 'ships' trips) on any of the islands visited on the above itinerary would be much appreciated, particularly Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao as these islands are new to us ... here's hoping! :):)
lexie1968 Posted February 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2014 Hi jo lou, you lucky thing! We did Charms for a week back in January, and hope to do Latin Gems next Jan. Anyway, we were supposed to do Mayreau, but the captain changed it because of rough seas. Instead he too us to Bequai (pronounced beckway), which was also a tender but we were in the bay so wasnt too bad. I think theyve been here a few times, so it may happen to you too. Its a lovely island, we just wandered around a bit then got a water taxi to a lovely unspoilt beach just round the headland.
Mower Lady Posted February 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2014 I'm so jealous, have been back from Latin Gems just over a week & would be back in an instant if I could. Aruba has loads of lovely beaches. Just walk over the road from where the ship docks to the bus station & get a local bus which takes you right along the coast, past all the big hotels & there's loads of beaches. The bus drivers are really helpful & its cheap, a couple of dollars each Curacoa, ship docks right in the middle of a lovely town, great for wandering around the market. You walk over a really great swing bridge which seems to open every 10 minutes, great to watch. We sat & had a drink in a bar overlooking the water where the ship docked- lovely.
