GRBadger Posted August 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2005 My family of 5 includes teen and preteens. We are cruising on the Vision out of LA in Feb. We will be in LA for 2 nights prior to the cruise. Is it a reasonable plan to rent a car from enterprise at LAX upon arrival then drop the family off with luggage at the pier prior to boarding. Then drop the car at the San Pedro location then walk back to the pier. It looks like this is only a 0.5 mile walk. Thanks for the input.
LMCAT123 Posted August 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2005 Be sure to find out what the drop off fee is and remember the San Pedro Enterprise office is open till noon on Sat. only (can't remember if open Sunday at all). Enterprise should be able to drop you back at pier.
sundeck Posted August 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2005 That's exactly what we did for our recent cruise on the Monarch. With 5 people, it makes sense to drop everyone and your luggage off at the ship and then return the car to Enterprise. Enterprise is literally just across the street from the terminal but not exactly an easy walk. They will shuttle you back to the ship and if you are picking up a car after your cruise, you can call them and they will come to pick you up. It worked out simply and easy for us but yes, be sure to check their hours. They close on holidays and certain days of the week. The rental agent at LAX waived the $25 drop off fee for us from LAX to San Pedro because we had a short wait for our vehicle. We were grateful for that. We tried to ge the drop off fee waived from San Pedro back to LAX but they wouldn't do it. It ended up being only $25 though for cruise passengers instead of the $40 we were quoted. Our car rental and drop off fees ended up being more convenient and cheaper than cabs or supershuttles for all of us. Plus, we had transportation for sightseeing during our 2 day pre cruise stay. By the way, if you're looking for a hotel, we stayed at the Doubletree Hotel in El Segundo near LAX and highly recommend it. The room was great and comfortable and parking was free. We got a $69/nite rate and warm chocolate chip cookies on checkin! Check it out. Enjoy your cruise! Wish it were me!

Satisfaction Posted August 26, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2005 We rented on-line from Budget at LAX and dropped in Long Beach. Budget shuttled us to the pier. it was not expensive and we had no problems.
