geri Posted November 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2015 Has anyone taken the local city bus from Coquimbo port to La Serena in Chile? If so I am hoping you can help me with these questions: 1. Where exactly did you find the bus when you exited the cruise port? 2. What was the approximate cost of the bus ride? 3. Did the bus make stops at some of the beach bars along the way to La Serena? What I am trying to do is get from the port to the La Serena square, then walk to the Faro lighthouse and the walk the beach to a nice bar/restaurant. Once done I'd like to catch the bus back to the port. I've tried finding information on line about the local bus system, but without luck. I do know there is a bus, but I can't determine any details. moviefan2010 Posted November 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2015 That port might be canceled on a cruise due to the tsunami damage. In late October my cruise ship had to cancel a stop there and they only announced that after the cruise started.

marymcgol Posted November 30, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 30, 2015 We took the public bus from Coquimbo to La Serena in 2015. The bus dropped us off about one block off the main square in La Serena. We walked around the main part of town and then walked to the lighthouse. It was quite a bit further than we had expected - over 1/2 hour walk. Toured the lighthouse and then had lunch at a restaurant next door. We were there in late March and the beach area seemed pretty deserted. We were the only ones at the restaurant. We caught a taxi from the lighthouse area back to the port. The taxi went along the beach and we passed many bars and restaurants but saw very few people. The beach looked beautiful - we'd love to go back! I would recommend taking a taxi to a beach bar, but would check in advance to make sure bar/restaurant is open.
