Getting off the ship in St. Thomas and Staying?

I'm thinking of taking a 7 day southern caribbean cruise this summer. It starts and ends in San Juan, going the St. Thomas the night before. I'd like to stay a couple of extra days in St. Thomas. Would the cruise line (RCL or any other) allow us to take our baggage off and stay in St. Thomas instead of returning to San Juan?

We did this last spring and it's no problem at all. You have to have it set-up in advance with Royal Caribbean. Make sure when you get off that use have someone from the ship take your luggage on a cart. You have to walk to the US Customs office and clear customs there and it's a pretty long walk. Once you clear customs there (which took us less then 2 mins) you are free to do what ever you like.

Another thing is you must leave the ship in the morning, you can not leave your luggage onboard for the day and come back and get it later. Our flight to St. Kitts wasn't until 4:00 so we went to the Marriott and they held our luggage for us since we were staying at a Marriott resort on St. Kitts.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
