Twilight Tour of San Francisco

Hi All! We will be in San Fran off the Explorer this fall, and am debating about the Twilight City tour. RCCL offers a 3.5 hr excursion, but the Hop on/Off bus pass which we will also be purchasing, offers a 2 hour tour included with the 2 day bus pass. Would the RCCL excursion be better since it is longer, or should we just do the 2 hr free one offered by the Big Bus company. It is my husband's birthday that day, and would really like it to be special. I don't mind buying the RCCL twilight tour if it is nicer that the other one. Any advice with this would be much appreciated!

Cruise line tours frequently have "special shopping" stops and you are stuck in some large store for an hour or so whether you like it or not. This is probably the rule rather than the exception. It would account for the time difference.

 

The hop on and off buses are double deckers and the upper level has no roof so quite pleasant if the weather is good. Where you run into trouble is getting off at a popular stop and then getting back on a later bus. Very common to have a 30 person line waiting for the bus but when it arrives there are only 5 seats. Not rare to be in line an hour or more to get back on a bus.
