How many true friends do you have?

I have family just like yours! My parents live in Cyprus and expect us to go there year in year out for our holiday. Well I don't,I might try to go every other year and then only for a week. which is all I can stand, I am selfish this year as I have chosen to go on our very first cruise to Hawaii at Christmas ( a present for my 50th from DH ) mother is not speaking to me and dad just follows mother! Do I care NO! I just couldn't think of any thing worse than been dragged round to meet more family and listen to who's dead, how sick so and so been and how his daughter come all the way from the US to visit him!I get so stressed and poor DH its even worse as it all Greek to him!

We are ex military and have made some wonderful friends over the years and we still keep in touch with some of them and I very much hope to make some new ones on our cruise.

There is a saying here in the UK ' You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family'

Do what you want to do and let the family deal with their problem!
