Is it recommended to use pesos at the ports for miscellaneous purchase (i.e. trinkets, coffee, beer) or just use US$??

Thanks in adv for all reply.

I travel to Mexico every year. Using pesos gets me the biggest bang for the for my US travel dollars. It doesn't hurt to work with all US $'s. Take a wad of singles and fives. They will spend just like ten and fifty peso notes. The average street vendor will give you and exchange rate of ten to one even if the official exchange rate is 10.5 or better. Just as a matter of convenience for them.

As a general rule, the final price offered on anything will be in whole dollars as they do not like to take US coins and rarely give US currency in change. If you pay for a 35 peso bucket of beer (three bottles) and pay with a US five dollar bill, you will likely get 15 pesos in change.

Enjoy!
