You will go through U.S. Customs on your return to the U.S. You will deplane, go through the immigration/passport check, retrieve your bags, and then go through Customs. Most likely, you will just follow the signs for "nothing to declare", hand your declaration form (filled out on the plane) to an officer, and that will be it. You will then give your bags back to the airline personnel who will re-check it for your connecting flight (if you have one).
