Pompei Licensed Guide-How Much?

Recommended Posts

Some of the drivers offer a guide for an additional charge. What do the guides cost if we were to hire at the site of Pompeii.

Why does time fly only when you don't want it to?

Mike,
How was the audio guide? I've been corresponding with Salvatore and he wants to know whether our group of 6 will want him to reserve a guide for 100 Euros or if we'll use the audio guides. What do you think?

A word of advice.
Last year we went with a group and had a private guide. If anyone goes on their own and thinks about latching alongside a private group with a guide and listenning in,,DON'T. They will soon spot you and totally embarass you in public. This happened last year and the guide was very cross with the people listenning in.

Hi Marge,

We all used the audio tour and thought it was excellent but if you are really interested in the site then it is probably worth the splurge.

You will have a great day with Salvatore and make sure he takes you to the San Giovanni restaurant.

We decided to go with a real guide at the last minute instead of the audio guides and I am glad we did. It was $100 total for the 6 of us and I feel we definitely received our money's worth. Our guide spoke great English, was very experienced and took us to many of Pompeii's highlights while keeping us away from the big cruise tour crowds (and out of the sun). We also got to see the gymnasium and baths, just below the main gate. I'm not sure you are allowed in there unless you have a guide authorized to do so. In the end, we decided we made the right decision to hire a live person. Of course, if you go with the audio guide, you'll never know what you missed. Pompeii is great and you'll enjoy yourself either way.

And ditto above (not directed at anyone in particular), don't try to sneak in and listen to a paid guide that you didn't pay for. They'll know you don't belong and it is very rude and disruptive to those who did pay for the guide.
