How Rough Are The Waters?

I've heard that the beaches in SJ have rougher waters than other parts of the Carribbean. I'm a non-swimmer (but coordinated, in good shape, and not easily panicked), and we're thinking about visiting Isla Verde beach. Would it be a bit risky for me to hang out in shallow water (with a life vest, of course), or are the waters rough enough that you'd advise a non-swimmer to stay out of the water completely? Thanks for any feedback.

We were at Condado beach in Jan. and the waves were big mabe about 6-8 ft..My husband and nephews loved them but for me they were toostrong and would pull you pretty hard and knock you off balance easily.

So it just depends what you like. With a life vest I think you would be ok.
