Timeframe for Returning to ship from port?

Hi all. I know this has been posted somewhere but the search keeps timing out on me. How much before sailing do you need to return to the ship?

 

I'd like to do some ports on my own, instead of thru Carnival. For instance, in Tortola, we are docked 7a - 2p. Does that mean we have to be back on the ship by 1p? I'm trying to figure out the time I need to be back vs. the ferry times. Thanks!
