Merida and Uxmal

We will be in progreso from 7-4. is it possible to do merida and uxmal on your own? any advice on which first and transportation--bus?

In my humble opinion, you would not do either justice. It's just trying to cram too much into your limited time.

Julie- I don't think you would have time to do both. If you choose to go to Merida, you can take a public bus from Progreso very cheaply. The cost has been discussed on other threads. I don't remember how much it costs, but it is really cheap.

Uxmal is worth visiting. I went there with AutoProgreso tour guides for $55. They have excellent guides and their excursions are great values.

If you want to spend some time in Merida and see a Mayan ruin site, Autoprogreso also offers an excursion to a Mayan site closer to Progreso (Dzibilchaltun) and a brief tour of Merida for $45 pp.

The local bus to Merida is $3.00 RT. Keep reading this board for more info. Exploring Merida is soooo very easy to do on your own in a very safe large city.
