Recommend places to eat in Merida

Does anyone have a recommendation of places to eat in Merida? Also, should we get pesos or are USD$ ok?

US dollars are fine. A favorite restaurant of mine is Portico El Perigrino on Calle 57 between Calles 60 & 62. Beautiful courtyard restaurant and a special dish for me is Pollo Pobile.

Chicken seasoned, wrapped in banana leaves and baked. Excellent, Not real spicey. Very good service and reasonable.

We would recommend having pesos - many establishments would take your dollars, but only exchange them for 10 pesos - current exchange is 13 pesos.
