cenote

Saw that carnival has a cenote trip. Can this be done on my own versus thru the ship? I've done it once and leery about it. But, that was a few years ago. Can I hire a driver at the port to take me there, versus via the bus into Merida?

Who do I contact. Port time is 7:00a-4:00p.

For the life of me, I can't remember the name of them, but they are about 1.5 hours from Progresso. You get on a horse (mule) carriage and go off into the jungle. There are 3 cenotes there. I think it is the same place the ship goes to, but they only visit 2 cenotes and the 3rd one is the best!!!

That's it.

Could we get from the port, see all 3, and back between the hours of 7:00 and 3:00 or 3:30???

Would you be allowed on the bridge to pick us up from the port, or must we go into Progresso?

How much would you charge for the transport for 2 adults?

Just to make sure, you would wait on us at the cenotes, right?

Yeah Cuzama sounds like fun. Of course we can't have any crass commercialism on this forum so I would suggest having a look at a site that looks at life in Merida from a neurotic foreigners POV and poke around there. There is also a blog on Merida's restaurants as well which might help if you are looking to have lunch in the formerly white city! Happy planning! :)

I went to the three Cozuma cenotes a few weeks ago (while not on a cruise). I enjoyed them very much, but I am not sure I would take a chance on going on a tight cruise ship schedule. You need a few hours there, and traffic might make the trip longer than anticipated. For example, we ended up trying to get through a town on market day. It was interesting, but we didn't move for a long time.

I've done it once (on my own) and it ranks as one of my favorite excursions! However, we were the VERY LAST ones on the ship, once we stepped inside, they pulled up the walkway!

I would be interested in hiring someone for the day to take me there again. I've contacted William Lawson (e-mail on web-site) and he might take us there.
