So I was actually referring to Fanning Island. Not sure about Christmas Island. They are both part of Kiribati. From google "Snorkeling and diving: Kiribati is home to some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. We were there in 2011. It's just a small island with locals meeting and selling their handmade products on shore. If I remember the story correctly HAL only stops there to re-supply the island. Apparently another cruise line did this but stopped and so HAL took it over.
