Giantfan13 Posted April 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2014 (edited) Don't know much about weight, but if you are going in July or August, light weight would be MVHO. If you are walking around town you probably won't need any jacket, on the glaciers or near them, still light weight but with layers. Unless you are from Miami and any day under 70 is 'COLD', they what I suggested should be fine. Just make sure that light weight is waterproof. PNW Traveler Posted April 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2014 A basic lightweight unlined waterproof jacket with a hood and a lightweight fleece vest or jacket will be all you need. You can layer these as necessary. A vest is easy to pack and takes up less luggage space. Consider a slightly higher cost windproof fleece vest to block that cool breeze when you are out on deck. Sweatshirts are heavy and not the best in the wind.
Behoneybee Posted April 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Do you think the same clothes would apply in mid-June (Anchorage/Denali, then on cruise Whittier to Vancouver)?
VideoTech Posted April 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2014 What weight clothing do I need for Alaska in July-August? Seattle to Seattle Layers. You need to be able to add on and take off clothing as the temperature will vary throughout the day, and you're likely to be chilly in the morning, then almost hot in the sun in the afternoons, and then chilly and cold again in the evening. So the basics are comfortable walking/touring clothing, with a fleece to put on over that, and a water- and wind-resistant shell to go over that. If you're planning a tour out onto one of the glaciers you should consult with the tour operator about clothing for that specific tour.
