campolady Posted January 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Seriously thinking of booking Island Escape this year after 3 cruises on the Dream and one on Majesty. What will I gain by going on IE for a change? What am I likely to regret not having? Are we too old for IE at 67 and 55? All comments very gratefully received. Stevio Posted January 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) Seriously thinking of booking Island Escape this year after 3 cruises on the Dream and one on Majesty. What will I gain by going on IE for a change? What am I likely to regret not having? Are we too old for IE at 67 and 55? All comments very gratefully received. Have only been on the Dream once before when they were having a crew change & a Noro outbreak so probably did not see her at her best, but... The IE quality & choice of buffet food won hands down over the Dream but then again you will have to pay a premium on the IE for someone to serve you. I ranked the entertainment higher on the IE. The resident C.D. Ross Roberts & his team are now famous for their work rate & professionalism. The IE is all inclusive & provides the basic drinks in the starting price of the cruise. (Which makes some of the 500 odd quid pp 7 day cruises look real bargains compared to the rest of the fleet). The casino is a tad better on the IE. The IE must be doing something right as the ship always seems to have a majority of repeat cruisers on board. The Dream wins hands down on its cabins... Like for like they are huge compared to the tiny IE rooms, & less dated. You will not have that little kettle in your cabin. You are definitely not too old (At 55 one of you is younger than me :p) Having said all that we have booked the Majesty next April just for a change :) ( & it was a lot less than a 10 day NCL Jade that I was looking at before they sold out of Gatwick flights & put the price up by £800 one evening.) Just noticed your title "Go On - Sell IE to me!" ... Not too loud, Thomson's have been rumoured to be trying to flog it for years & if you made an offer they probably would. Stevio Posted January 8, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2015 Forgot to mention, you will also be missing a fridge in the standard IE cabin, and the IE CC forum is nowhere near as well supported as the Thomson one. In fact.... I think I am the only one left... The others are all on FB I think.

jenny wren Posted January 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2015 We have done three two week cruises on ie over the past few years....mainly booked for the different itineraries....we have cruised with p and O, Celebrity, RCI, Thomson and Princess......the ship is old and the cabins look a bit like an old caravan but spotlessly clean and we found the beds very comfy...new carpets and soft furnishings, refurbished. Bathrooms..... The entertainment is the best we've seen with the wonderful Ross Roberts as CD....she does move about a bit on choppy seas so I would recommend choosing a cabin midships and not high up.....we had deck 5 and 6 which were fine. Buffet restaurant ok. But we prefer Island restaurant which is still self serve but tables have cloths on and there are waiters who will serve you drinks and coffee.....there is also a speciality restaurant with a supplement of around 15 pounds...the staff on this ship have all been very friendly and efficient in our experience.
