Airport security clearance on a travelscoot

Can anyone advise their recent experience at a US airport while riding a scooter? I plan to fly from Phoenix to Kona Hawaii and return later this Summer. Previously I have used a wheelchair at the airport which enabled me to avoid the longer line and be processed through a special line. If you are on a scooter, will security let you use the special line or do you have to get in the general line? Thank you.

I have used a Travelscoot since October of 2009 and a wheelchair before that. In that time I have flown well over 50 times with it. The TSA/security process is EXACTLY the same as with a chair, and assuming you gate checked your WC, everything is the same.

FYI, despite the 'how to prepare your Travelscoot for the airplane' info on its website, I ALWAYS put my Lithium battery in the TS battery bag and carry it on.

It stores easily and is much safer as the battery is very temperature sensitive and should never be dropped. One never knows what goes on with baggage handlers!

If you have any more questions, ask away.

Have a fabulous time....Aloha!

I have used my TS (Later model, with reverse gear, & 2 batteries) several times, when flying, out of Canadian & US airports, I was treated the same as by WC, I can walk a few steps, so I walk through the metall detecter, and because I have both knee and hip replacements, I’m also checked with a handheld wand, and hand padded, while my TS is checked over. Then I ride my scooter to the door of the aircraft, remove the remaining battery (one is already in the TS equipment bag), place it in the bag, lower & cover the handle bars, walk to my seat. After landing I wait till the rest of the passengers are off the aircraft, and due it all in reverse, remove cover, raise handle bars, install one battery, and drive on my way.

It sure beats a wheelchair.

No problems..scootering and airplane travel for years. Just returned from TPA-LAX-TPA trip. I could stand and walk through detector with aid of tsa cane once, other times, even with tsa pre check I was patted down.....scooter was checked every time. Just allow plenty of time for scooter return if you have to change planes anywhere along the way and be prepared to wait for scooter at your destination. Check with desk at your boarding gate to have your scooter gate checked and tagged. I have found the ramp crew to be very helpful.
