Montevideo

We will be stopping at Montevideo in December and are looking at several options. For those of you that have been there, what are your pros and cons of the following excursions: 1) Colonia de Sacramento, 2) Punta del Este, or 3) city highlights.

On my cruise excursion, I did Colonia de Sacramento. I loved it. Note: the public restrooms don't have TP, so bring your own or bring Uruguayan money to pay the ladies who sit outside sell it.

Was it really worth the 2 hour drive ? Why did you like it so much ?

1. See the rural parts of Uruguay o. Way there

2. The colony and history is interesting.

3. Views

4. Lunch was delicious

5. Beautiful architecture

Thank you for your input. It is an UNESCO sight, so probably quite interesting, but still trying to decide if we want to be on a bus for 4-5 hours.

Colonia is quaint but not really spectacular. Montevdeo is pleasant enough but doesn't compare to BA where I assume you are also stopping. I haven't been to Punta del Este, but if you like busy beaches it is well regarded and should be a fun day.
