Pelican Grand Resort - worth it?

Hi, we are staying two days pre cruise at the Embassy Suites (our usual place to stay) and have booked one day (disembarkation day) also at the ES. My SIL raved on the weekend about the Pelican Grand resort, and the pictures are great. Any opinions on whether its worth it to upgrade to extend our vacation in that luxury? I know its beach front. What about distance? Anything around? Longer in cab to airport? Its twice the price of the ES, is it twice the stay? Also, we will have to be on our way to the airport by 6 a.m. the next morning. Thanks for any input.

There isn't anything around the Pelican other than another hotel restaurant at Sun Tower. It's a nice little hotel, smaller than Embassy, but I wouldn't call it luxurious. It's about 1.5 miles from Galleria mall. It's about 4 miles north of Embassy and across the intracoastal, so it takes about 15 minutes longer to get to the airport.

DW and myself enjoyed our stay. The beach is just a few steps from the back door. Also, the roasted pork shank I had was excellent.
