RollieUK Posted October 16, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Unless you are docking nearby it may be visible but will not be close up. Gibraltar is not, as many people believe, at the very tip of the Iberian peninsula. Tarifa is the southern tip and Gibraltar is a little further up the east coast. Depending which direction you are travelling you will be about 8-10 miles away and cruise ships mostly pass through the strait after dark. Which direction will you be travelling in? What time of day/time of year? Also, just to clarify - it is STRAIT of GIBRALTAR not straight of Gibralter. flutprop Posted October 16, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 16, 2014 The shape was visible when we passed by in early September, around 9:30pm. We could also see the lights and some hills from Africa
RollieUK Posted October 17, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 17, 2014 We are on a westbound TA. We leave Malaga at 7pm on Oct. 5th 2015 and arrive in Cadiz on Oct. 6th Leaving Malaga and heading west you will be nearer Gibraltar than if you were heading east. Leaving Malaga at 7pm it will be dark by the time you pass through the straits. As I said before, it will probably be visible (depending on the weather) but will not be close enough to see in any detail.
