Safe in puerto limon with small children

We will be in Costa Rica with our six and three year old sons. None of the tours interest us. We thought maybe just a walk around town for an hour or two. Is there much right around the port and, more importantly, how safe will it be for us?

Thanks

See my review of Jorge Ramirez on the Limon thread. He can customize whatever you want within the constraints of time, ages of participants etc. there is a market inside the pier fencing and that's about it. To get into the actual "downtown" area of Limon you will need to hike a little or get a cab. His em is Jorgel.cr@hotmaildotcom.
