Seward - Nice Central Hotel Or B&B?

We'll be arriving in Seward in mid Augst 2006 by train for two nights and I'm trying to determine the best bang for the buck in a centrally located hotel or B & B here so we can walk to things. Would like to keep it under $200 a night.

Do we really need to rent a car here?

Would appreciate ideas.

Thank you.

We like the Harborview Inn. It's reasonably priced, mid-way between downtown and the harbor. The name, however, is misleading since it faces away from the harbor. The Holiday Inn Express is nice too and is right on the marina.

There is actually 2 areas in Seward, downtown/Sealife Center, which is 2 blocks big and the boat harbor where wildlife/fishing charters leave. There is about 2 miles in between the areas.

Murphy's Motel could be a good choice along with the Harborview Inn, both in the middle. Otherwise there are hotels in both areas and B&B's close to downtown. Seward Waterfront Lodge is one of my 1st picks.

Taxis are cheap, usually not a long wait, and most of the time waiting for the train to arrive. All the drivers are locals and are more than happy to show you the town.
