blndee77 Posted June 29, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2004 Was on another board yesterday and was talking to someone who sailed on the Regal Princess which is the former Olympia/Caribe. I sailed on the Caribe in the early 90s. Wondering if there is anyone else out there that sailed on her as the Caribe in the 90s?
dougnewmanatsea Posted June 29, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2004 Just FYI former CARIBE is REGAL EMPRESS, not REGAL PRINCESS. REGAL PRINCESS was built in 1992 for Princess (originally ordered for Sitmar who were taken over by Princess in 1989). For more on REGAL EMPRESS/CARIBE, see this article by Peter Knego from Maritime matters.
blndee77 Posted June 29, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted June 29, 2004 That's what I meant. Regal Empress not Regal Princess. Just a little slip of the tongue!
keith0926 Posted July 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 19, 2004 My husband & I took our first cruise on the Caribe! We had such a wonderful time, and met some great people. We have been cruising ever since and it is our favorite vacation. Just last January we were docked next to it in the Bahamas. My husband thought it may be the Caribe. We looked it up on the internet when we got home and he was right! What a great ship! Patty
lodichuck Posted July 26, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 26, 2004 My first cruise was on the Caribe in Nov 1992, I was lucky enough to sail on her about 8 times while she was the Caribe and several more times as the Regal Empress. I have been on over 40 cruises in all sizes and kinds of ships but my heart and soul of cruising is with the Caribe.
Cruisedogs2 Posted August 9, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 9, 2004 We sailed on the Caribe at least 6 times and always had a great time. This was when the ship was docking in Puerta Plata in the Dominican Republic - what a fun port! Our first cruise was on the Boheme (Comodore Cruise Line also) and it was only 11,000 tons - IMAGINE THAT! Some of the tenders are that big now. Vmalcolm Posted August 29, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2004 The Caribe was the first ship we sailed on in July 1987. We sailed on her five more times. I loved the itinerary and stopping in Puerto Plata. Went to Sousa for the day. Beautiful beach! Our kids would go look up our old room steward "Sammy" and he always remembered them and our original cabin number. Loved the horseracing game that they had in the casino! My-T-mouse Posted February 9, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 9, 2017 I know its an old thread, but I had to stop by and give some love to this great ship. I remember as we were driving up to the port to depart for my first cruise laughing at the obvious size difference between this ship and the other 4 docked near it. Much to my surprise, that was indeed the one we were booked on....lol I didn't realize until later how many advantages that entailed! This ship will forever have a special place in my heart even if it did become Volkswagens and drink cans. My past cabins were B-12 (right at the water line in the bow, we could hear objects bouncing off the bow periodically through the night.) Then we had Suite 2, then suite 16. These suites actually had 2 bathrooms in each!! The suites were huge and had lots of closet space. Big sitting area too.
