ship's casino hours on asian itinerary

hi, everyone... i posted this to the princess board since that's the cruise line i'm looking at but haven't had much luck. was hoping someone here who has been on an asian cruise could help me out. i was wondering what your experience has been with casino hours. i know ships have to be in international waters for them to open. the itinerary i'm eyeing has a lot of sea days but some of the travel looks to be close to land (tho i know the maps aren't to scale). anyway, the ship starts in singapore and goes to bali. from bali to kuala lumpur. looks like we're safe there. but then it goes from kuala lumpur to penang, penang to phuket, and phuket back to singapore. this is the area i'm not too sure about with regards to how far out we are. sorry for the long drawn out question. but with so many sea days and my companion not really into much except gambling on those days, i figured i'd better find out if that will even be an option. thanks in advance for any insight!

I don't gamble so didn't notice exact hours and hopefully someone who does will respond. My observation is that it seemed to be open even on these short legs. I would guess they make sure to get into Intl waters as Asian cruisers love to gamble. If you don't get a response a Hong Kong based travel agent should also know or you could of course email or call Princess.

my thoughts exactly regarding the asian gamblers, so i'm hoping for the best. do you by any chance know of a general princess email address? i tried to find one on their website but could only locate an 800 number. (under "contact information" it says "please contact your princess cruise international sales representative. i'm accessing the site from the philippines so not sure if that has anything to do with it...) thanks!

Usually from half to 1 hour of sailing out of the port. :)

thanks! i'm just hoping we get far enough away from land that this applies. my mom doesn't do anything but gamble on board so this cruise wouldn't be good for her if she couldn't play blackjack. and, ok, i admit... i like to gamble a bit too :D

There is no quick answer, which may be why you have not had a reply from the Princess board yet.

Maritime Law is quite complex, varies by country, then there are various limits (possibly) within the shore of each country and each ship is regulated according to the country of its registry, even when not in port although that is subjugated, depending upon the issue at hand, severity, etc. - there's an ordering to which law applies first, second, third. Or possibly simultaneously? Quite a fascinating subject

Anyway - the answer starts at, casinos might open anywhere from 12 to 24 miles from shore (nautical miles - 6,076ft, longer than standard miles - 5,280 ft as you probably already know) and then also the speed with which the ship makes this distance depends upon first getting out of port, weather conditions etc. In other words, as another member has stated, anywhere up to an hour after departing.

Might be handy to have a "plan B" ready - a rolling card game with some other members on board that also enjoy "sporting" games of cards? Post in the roll call, you never know. Have a great voyage.
