galelynn Posted November 21, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) We are looking for a reasonablely priced hotel in Berlin, for 2 nites May 15-17, 2014. Would like to be close to the center of Berlin and not a long distance away from the airport as we have a early flight on the 17th. Any suggestion would be appreciated, as this is our 1st time in Berlin. Thank you. Edited November 21, 2013 by galelynn
tg_lindo Posted November 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 22, 2013 Try looking in the Wittenbergplatz area. There are hotels of various price ranges. Getting to Tegel (TXL) takes less than 30 min, combination of U-Bahn and bus. A taxi is probably faster. This area has the giant KaDeWe department store, and a lot of "high street" shops. If by "center" of Berlin you mean Unter den Linden and Museum Island, those locales are efficiently reached via U-bahn. The transit in Berlin is fantastic. kaisatsu Posted November 24, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2013 I've had some very good luck with Hotwire and Priceline hotels in Berlin.
Rare mj_holiday Posted November 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 25, 2013 We stayed at Park Inn in 2012. It is in what was East Berlin, near the TV tower, near tram stations and within walking distance of many sites.
buggins0402 Posted November 26, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 26, 2013 We stayed at the Hampton City West when we were in Berlin for 4 nights last May. Reasonably priced, wonderful service, decent breakfast, great trip advisor reviews, about 20 euro taxi ride from TXL. Area was very walkable, with nice selection of restaurants. This is the area Rick Steves recommends staying. U-bahn and S-bahn can get you anywhere and everywhere you need to go in Berlin. It's huge and very fragmented as to neighborhoods so no hotel will be close to everything.
