Flam from Bergen or Sognefjord?

I am leaning toward doing it from Sognefjord, as I think Bergen offers more for a DIY day, which one would you suggest please.............

I would also like to know which excursion Titled Norway in a Nutshell would be best ie the one from Flam ( Sognefjord ) or the one from Bergen.

Do it from Flam ther's not a lot to do from there, there's lots to look at in Bergen
