if so , does anyone have info on scooter rentals in the port or across the street?

Michelle, Thats correct. most Carnival ships are docking at Puerta maya. Unless you have full experience on a Scooter driving you should give it a try. Make sure you look and inspect your bike before you take off. Touch lamps and make sure they are tight and work in place. Take pictures of the bike and then also look at your tires.

There are several scooter rentals right across, prices will go from 25/45 depending on the company and the bike conditions. Make sure you are careful as you drive out.

I hate to act like a Mom (but I am!) but we saw a terrible scooter accident when we were there in March. The young lady on the scooter was going too fast, hit the curb, and was thrown off the scooter and into the ditch on the side of the road. Our taxi stopped to help and I had to turn away because she had a compound fracture of the leg (bone sticking out) and was screaming in pain. Yes, I know scooters are fun, but Please be careful!
