Fishymom Posted August 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2014 Magic out of Galveston week of Halloween Or Dream out of Nola week of Thanksgiving. Same exact itinerary... Same room... Right down to the room number Driving- so travel costs about the same. Does one departure port or ship rise above? Weather end of Oct better then end of Nov? Vice versa? The weather shouldn't be too different. On Halloween, there will be a costume contest and many guests will dress up. Thanksgiving will offer a special menu. I don't remember if they had a special menu on Halloween... The Carnival Magic is a little newer and will offer SportsSquare with a ropes course and an Italian specialty restaurant if you're interested in either of those. Topo Gigio Posted August 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2014 I was on the Dream on her 2009 Thanksgiving cruise out of NY. With 1300 children onboard it was a MAD house! never ever again.

dwaterhouse Posted August 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2014 Love the dream... But would never think of sailing over a major holiday ..... To many kiddies The magic would be good, it's a newer ship I also think it has the Italian restaurant and guys burgers and the dream doesn't

I cannot speak for ship;have not been on either...both ships appeal to me and they are both fairly new, and I would normally lean toward leaving from New Orleans because I love that city. But it seems like a very busy time/week. And given the choice I might like to go for the halloween cruise out of Galveston...but....given the choice I would go for Magic from Galveston...because it is sooner:D Seriously dont think either one is a bad choice. Mom2sml Posted September 1, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2014 I haven't been on either ship but there will be less kids on the Halloween cruise than the Thanksgiving cruise.
092306 Posted September 1, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 1, 2014 I haven't sailed either ship, but did sail over Halloween and it was a fun time. Would definitely do a Halloween cruise again.
springs741 Posted September 1, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 1, 2014 I have sailed the Magic. The Dream is her sister ship. So equal on the ship. The weather will be about the same, your driving so travel expenses are also equal and they have the same itinerary. If I were trying to pick between the two I would look at how many ship will be in the ports on my port days. Another factor is Thanksgiving will have more kids on board because most will have school holidays during that week. A more family vibe. The Halloween cruise has a more party atmosphere. So that will be a factor. I guess the last factor would be cost. A quick check of prices and looks like the Thanksgiving cruise is about $300 more per person for a balcony stateroom based on a two person booking. I would save the money and either use it for excursions or to book my next cruise. Whichever you pick happy cruising.
