Birth of a New World (Columbus Statue) Opens Jan. 2017

A colossal "new" statue of Christopher Columbus will open in Arecibo, Puerto Rico (near the caves and observatory) in January 2017. This statue is twice as big as the Statue of Liberty in New York. The piece by Russian artist Zurab Tsereteli commemorates the 500th anniversary of Columbus' voyages to the New World. Puerto Rico is the only place under the U.S. flag where Columbus actually set foot. More info:
