Hi.

Has anyone managed to find and use a tour guide/driver for any of these four ports?

Belem, Maceio,Vitoria and Ihabela(Sao Sebastiao)?

Any help and/or advice from previuos cruisers would be appreciated:D

Thanks VidaNaPraia,

Are there likely to be many English speaking taxi drivers at these resorts?

I was hoping to see a bit of the local area, take a few photographs before hitting the beach hence needing a driver with local knowledge and English speaking.

Will just have to try for a taxi or learn Portugese!:D

Thanks for your reply

Do not expect anyone in Brazil, including those in the tourism sector, to speak other than Portuguese.

Vitoria and Maceio are oceanside cities, not resorts, but cities without much of touristic interest other than the beaches. From Maceio, you can go by jangada to the pools in the reef in Pajucara. There are a few places to buy crafts, including lace. As mentioned, from Vitoria, the best beaches are in Vila Velha. In Vitoria, there are a few religious sites and a couple of parks for sightseeing.

Ilha Bela is an island (and some smaller islets) where Brazilians escape to the beach, full of small, expensive pousadas and restaurants. You can hike through the wilder parts or take boat excursions or hang out on the beach.

We are going on the Maasdam, Amazon and Carnival Explorer in January, 2016. What did you do in these ports?
