Another Southampton transport question

Recommended Posts

We're heading to a Gatwick hotel for one night after our cruise. We'll have spent a week in London before the cruise with the Olympics. We are looking for a nice bit of sightseeing on the way to the airport and to help pass the day. (unless there's something you'd recommend to see near Gatwick.).

I'm ready to contact one of the private limo services recommended here, I just don't know what to tell them.

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Sounds a bit like a recent previous question in reverse, though you've got less time.

The simple transfer will take you about 2hrs 15 cross-country

or 1hr 40 by the motorway loop.

You'll want to be at Gatwick a min 2 hours ahead of your flight time.

Cross-country is prettiest - consider dropping into one or two of the places suggested on that thread.

The motorway loop will be boring, but a little quicker.

Consider Winchester, just 20 mins from Southampton.

Or the Milestones museum at Basingstoke (though the town isn't worth seeing)

Or Brooklands, a couple of miles off the M25 - birthplace of British circuit motor-racing and early airport, exhibits from both, including a Concorde

Or, by either route, about 15 mins beyondGatwick is Ann Boleyne's Hever Castle.

This would be your safest bet, because it's close to the airport

Doh.:o

Read the question properly, son

OK, no problem on timing, you're heading for a hotel.

Cross-country is definately better scenery & more options.

And I've just checked distance to Hever Castle.

Yep, like I said, its 15 mins from the airport.

If your driver is Michael Schumacher.

19 slow miles, make that 40 mins
