Activities for solo mom and DS7?

The 2 of us will be on our first cruise ever, going to Cozumel, Roatan, and Progreso in April with the Voyager.

DS7 isn't a good swimmer, and I'm not a super confident swimmer in the open ocean. Is it possible to see any fish from a shallow beach? Are there sandy bottoms so you could sit in the water and put on the snorkle gear? Is there anywhere to rent a float to tow him around?

Are there other activites you would recommend for us in Roatan?

I am assuming that DS7 means dear son 7 yrs old? If so, when in Roatan I would highly recommend that you use Victor Bodden tours and ask for Cardy Grant as a guide. We were recently in Roatan for a few hours and toured with Cardy Grant through Bodden tours with my 5 y/o grandson and 7 y/o granddaughter. It was the highlight of our cruise. We visited the Iguana Farm and then stopped at Victor's house to see the baby monkeys, then toured the island and ended up at a gorgeous West Bay beach. The kids absolutely loved the iguana farm. Cardy was so good with the kids (who were a little skittsh around the iguanas at first.) He stayed right with my grandson and soon had him feeding and petting the iguanas. There is a pier at the iguana farm where you can see sea turtles, barraduca, lobster and a bunch of other fish right from the pier. We then left and stopped at Victor's house where the kids were able to hold baby monkeys. Then on to the beach and a little swimming. Cardy has spent time in the US, is a divemaster and just an all around great person. He escorted us into a store where we did some fast shopping, even helped my granddaughter to pick out a doll! We felt totally safe with him and I would not hesitate at all to tour with him alone. I hope you have a wonderful time!

Thanks for the suggestions of so many great things to do. This board is so helpful! I think my 7 year old boy will like the iguana farm and the monkeys.

I hope we'll be able to see the pretty fish too. I'm going to get a child snorkel set and try it out on him in the bathtub or the pool before we leave.

If he hates the feeling of the mask and breathing through the tube, maybe we'll try the Coral Reef explorer:
