I have 10 questions...September cruise on Jewel

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am sure a lot of these have been answered before and I have done my fair share of reading and searching believe you me. However I just wanted to clarify a few things because other posts are getting older.

1. Room service breakfast is a $3 surcharge, what exactly do you get for that?

2. Is Salt Grill a must? I have read many positive things and I am a total foodie?

3. We are visiting Port Vila, Isle of Pines and Lifou - is AUD okay currency wise? How much do you think we will need in small change per island?

4. Is it still okay to bring cash for your cruise card? I have read mixed opinions and here P & O prefer credit card, but I hate when companies hold money and take ages to release it. I've had bad experiences in the past and figure cash may be easier for us.

5. Power boards or no power boards? I am wanting to take my own hairdryer and possible curler for formal nights.

6. Current drink prices for all alcohol. Mostly cocktails and beer.

7. What is the entertainment like on the Jewel? Is Karaoke popular? Is the Dome well used?

8. Should $100pp per day be adequate for a couple. I've been before, partner hasn't. I intend on drinking as much as I feel could be 2 drinks one day 10 the next, not big on island souvenirs, may do 1-2 shore tours and a spot of duty free shopping, a bingo game or 2 and maybe salt grill, casino and the adventure type activities.

9. Weather in these ports in September? Is it warm enough to a. swim and b. lay in the sun? I know 24 in Aus is ok, but 24 in south pacific tends to be warmer?

10. We are cruising at the beginning of school holidays (I'm a teacher, so kids don't bother me) but will there be a fair few people aged between 20-40? Not to say I am ageist either, quite happy to party with an 18 year old or an 80 year old if they are up for it ;)

Last one, I promise.

11. We obviously have free dining, will it be hard to get a table for 2 on the odd night we want to eat just the two of us?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. Any extra tips and tricks appreciated. We are 25 (myself) and 29 (boyfriend).

:)

Q1 - no experience so can't comment

Q2 - there are no bad reviews of Salt Grill, everyone loves it. So I'd say it is a must.

Q3 - I've only been to Port Vila and I'm pretty sure they take AUD. However, we changed our money ... It's not that hard and more respectful (in my opinion).

Q4 - totally fine to put cash on your cruise card. Just make sure it always has enough on it.

Q5 - powerboards are okay ... We used one and encountered no problems

Q6 - beers about $5.50 and cocktails start at $9.50

Q7 - entertainment is what you make of it ... Get involved and have fun.

Q8 - maybe ... If it didn't include shore tours I'd say definitely

Q9 - the ocean may be a bit cool, but should be nice enough for a quick dip and lay on the beach to warm up.

Q10 - you'll find a decent mix of people onboard ... The 20-40 age group may be a bit light on, but the people onboard, no matter what age, will be looking to have fun.

Q11 - there aren't too many tables for 2 in the main dining room, you will have to try and secure on early, or go to a specialty restaurant which have plenty of tables for two.

Remember to relax, go with the flow and have fun.

Tania

1. There is a room service breakfast order card just like in hotels, I cant remember what is on it though cause I haven't ordered from it.

2. Salt - if you are a foodie then yes. I cant recall if Jewel has la luna, if so do that too its great.

3. AUD yes, how much- no idea I spend too much anyway.

4. Cash is fine, you just need to keep it topped up.

5. "Formal Nights"? what boat are you on again?

6 - 10. as answered already.

11. If you book the day in advance you will be able to get a table for two no probs usually.
