Fins and Flippers

We just got back from the 1-13-08 sailing of Voyager. We absolutely loved Roatan and Fins and Flippers. This was a family vacation including myself (34), DH (36), DD (9), DS (5). We had decided we just wanted to spend our day in Roatan on the beach where the kids could play and the adults could lounge. I found a link to Fins and Flippers on some old posting on this site. I looked at it, emailed the manager with a few questions and always got a very prompt reply. So we decided to book it. The took reservations online but simply to know about how many would be there on a given day. You didn't pay until you arrived and no penalty for not showing up. Anyway, when we arrived a young lady was waiting at the dock to escort us to another nearby dock where a shuttle boat awaited. We were quickly whisked away to our little private island. When we arrived (about 5 minutes later) we were met at the pier by the manager who gave us the run down on the place. At that point we where the only guests there and it stayed that way for about an hour or so. Throughout the day there were maybe 20 people on the whole place so it made it feel very private and relaxed. There is a beautiful, crystal clear pool surrounded by lounge chairs and tables and the most beautiful, lush vegetation I have ever seen. There is also a snack and drink bar near the pool that served fabulous adult beverages and sodas and great snack type foods at wonderful prices. Just down the walk from the pool area is the beach with lots of lounge chairs and trees. A word of warning here, bring some type of water shoes. There were lots of hermit crabs buried up in the water just off the beach. Very easy to step on one of their shells. But lots of fun for the kids to try to find. We found some very large hermit crabs and very small ones as well. Off of the beach there is a long pier with some great snorkeling at the end of it. We had a fabulous time and felt like we were in our own little paradise. I would highly recommend this wonderful resort... Feel free to ask any questions you might have and I will try to answer...

Thank you for your reply. I am looking forward to fins and flippers. Do you bring deat with you for the sand fleas. I looked online that there drink and food menu. Did you leave your personal stuff in a locker or did you feel safe to leave it at your chair. I have a very expensive camera. Did you like the voyager I have been watching it leave every sunday cant wait to go. One of my friends told me it was a beautiful ship.

Thanks for the info Sarah!

I was wondering if they were still having problems with Sand Fleas? Roatan is our first stop and I don't want to have red itchy bumps for the rest of the week! At least I'll be easy to spot (LITERALLY!) Did anyone in your group get attacked -- I'm a mosquito magnet and am afraid what those sand fleas would do to me! LOL!

As far as sand fleas and mosquitos we didn't really have that much trouble with them. I had brought bug spray but completely forgot to use it. I had two small bites and my son had one. I would take bug spray just in case. The beach was sandy and nice. They don't have lockers yet..but I felt completely safe leaving our things at our table by the pool. There were only about 5 employs out there and about 10 other people visiting. It is a really wonderful place to spend the day.
